TACOMA, Wash. - Seattle U men’s swimming turned in a strong performance against Simon Fraser and Puget Sound during a two-day meet Oct. 9-10 in Tacoma, Wash., highlighted by seven event victories, multiple top-three finishes and dominant relay performances.
The Redhawks opened the meet Friday with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, then added individual wins across freestyle, backstroke and sprint events. Seattle U carried that momentum into Saturday, earning four individual event victories and sweeping the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke.
Day One
Seattle U opened Friday’s competition with a win in the men’s 200-yard medley relay. The A team of Danielis Kvederis, Hennig Colsman, Hawkins Wendt and Hunter Dawson touched first in 1:29.57, while the B team of Alex Nemirovsky, Owen Collins, Ryan Cesmat and Jamie Crawford finished second in 1:30.69.
Kvederis followed with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:36.92. He also placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.92, joining Nemirovsky and Mathias Synnott in a Seattle U sweep of the top three places in the event. Nemirovsky won in 50.59, with Synnott close behind in 50.65.
Wendt delivered one of the meet’s standout sprint performances, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 19.90. Colsman finished second in 19.96, and Crawford took third in 20.49 to give the Redhawks all three top spots.
Seattle U closed the opening day with another relay victory as Wendt, Colsman, Dawson and Crawford combined for a winning time of 1:20.73 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Other notable performances included Jude Light’s second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.45 and Nathan Headon-Weeks’ runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.03. Collins placed third in the breaststroke at 57.25, giving Seattle U two swimmers in the top three.
Day Two
The Redhawks continued their strong showing Saturday, beginning with the men’s 400-yard medley relay. Kvederis, Headon-Weeks, Wendt and Colsman combined for a winning time of 3:16.78, finishing ahead of Simon Fraser’s A relay, which touched in 3:20.79.
Colsman led the way in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 45.10. Dawson secured second in 46.10, giving Seattle U the top two places in the event.
Kvederis added another individual victory in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in 1:47.99. Nemirovsky finished second in 1:49.43, while Synnott took third in 1:52.50 to complete another Redhawks sweep of the top three positions.
Wendt claimed his second individual victory of the meet in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 49.60. Nemirovsky placed second in 50.26, and Cesmat finished third in 50.74, once again putting three Seattle U swimmers on the podium.
The Redhawks also showed their depth in the 200-yard individual medley, with Collins leading Seattle U in fourth place at 1:56.47. Keanu Lee followed in fifth at 1:56.82, Light finished sixth in 1:57.31, and Jake Baker placed seventh in 1:58.36.
Seattle U capped the meet with another relay win. The team of Crawford, Colsman, Kvederis and Wendt won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:00.79. The Redhawks’ B team of Cesmat, Garrett Haggmark, Dawson and Kyle Lewis finished third in 3:10.20, while the C and D teams placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
