STOCKTON, Calif. — Seattle U women’s soccer earned a 2-1 victory over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Knoles Field, using first-half momentum and an early second-half goal to secure the road win.
The Redhawks (9-4-2, 3-1-0) scored once in each half to build a two-goal advantage before the hosts converted a late penalty kick to make things interesting.
Kailee Wilson opened the scoring in the 35th minute, finishing off an assist from Leila Leano at 34:31. The goal was Wilson’s seventh of the season, making her the team’s leading scorer.
The Redhawks wasted little time extending their advantage after the break. Kyla Schuster scored just 36 seconds into the second half, finding the net at 45:36 to put Seattle U ahead 2-0. The unassisted goal was Schuster’s third of the season.
Seattle U continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, finishing with 13 shots, including five on target. The Redhawks also held a 54-46 advantage in possession and matched the hosts with four corner kicks.
The hosts cut the deficit in half in the 84th minute, converting a penalty kick at 83:18. The late goal created a tense finish, but Seattle U maintained its advantage through the final whistle.
The Redhawks also benefited from playing with a numerical advantage for much of the second half after an opposing player received a red card at 49:19 for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Seattle U goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan made four saves to help preserve the victory, earning her fifth win of the season.
Coming off back-to-back conference wins, the Redhawks will look to carry that momentum into next week when they face Santa Clara at Championship Field on Saturday, Oct. 17.
