SEATTLE — Seattle University women's soccer battled No. 11 Washington on Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium, but a late first-half goal proved to be the difference as the Redhawks fell, 1-0, to the Huskies.
Seattle U (3-2-2) and Washington played a tightly contested opening half before the Huskies found the breakthrough in the 45th minute, sending the Redhawks into the break trailing by a goal.
The Redhawks continued to press for an equalizer in the second half, creating several opportunities against the nationally ranked Huskies. Vivien Villarreal recorded two shots on the night, including an attempt saved by the Washington goalkeeper. U'i Kaaihue also tested the keeper in the second half, but the stop was made to preserve the shutout. Sophie Hanson added Seattle U's final shot in the 89th minute, but the attempt went wide.
Goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan made two saves in her return to the starting lineup.

The Redhawks will turn their attention to another Northwest foe when they face Oregon State on Thursday, Sep. 10 in Corvallis. Kickoff between the two sides is scheduled for 5:00pm PT.
