COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Jacob Kang was the headliner at the CDA National Reserve Invitational this week, putting up the third top-10 performance of his career in his second year of collegiate competition for Seattle University men's golf.
Kang carded -2 under, 214 with 10 birdies across three rounds for his best finish of the season, including a best round of -2 under, 70 in the final round.
In his second tournament of his career, Cade McVicker continued to improve, coming in a career-best 24th place with +4 over, 220 and, despite finishing day one +6 over par, delivered a career-best round of -2 under, 70 on day two.
Fellow freshman Elliot Ro rounds out the Redhawks in the top 30, placing 29th with +5 over, 221 with ten birdies and an eagle, and a best round of even par, 72 in the second.
Fifth year Burly Hildreth had a solid return to competition after having to miss the first two competitions due to illness, placing 34th while carding +6 over, 222 with 10 birdies and a best round of -1 under, 71 in the second round. This is a marked improvement from the only other round Hildreth has played this season, where he carded +6 over in the first round of the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League.
Rounding out the competition was senior Kevin Li, who improved throughout the competition from a first round of +8 over, 80, to a second round of +4 over, 76 until making a marked improvement in the third round with +1 over, 73 with five birdies.
"Posting our lowest team score of the three rounds on the final day and climbing from 11th to sixth place really speaks to the fight these guys have," said assistant coach Robby Hipp. "Congrats to Jacob Kang on a top 10 finish in a very solid field—he continued the strong play he’s shown throughout the fall. It’s been a busy start to the season, and I’m excited to see what this group can accomplish this year."
The team will take a few weeks off before traveling down to Stockton, Calif., for the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational from October 12-14.
