Freshmen Pace Redhawks in Season Opener

Seattle University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2026 season each with a fourth place team finish at the Ash Creek Collegiate Friday, hosted by Western Oregon University at Ash Creek Reserve in Monmouth, Ore.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Seattle University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2026 season each with a fourth place team finish at the Ash Creek Collegiate Friday, hosted by Western Oregon University at Ash Creek Reserve in Monmouth, Ore.

The rare evening meet began with the men’s 6k, followed by the women’s 5k. Seven total Redhawk freshmen made their collegiate debuts, including three on the men’s side and four on the women’s.

Freshman Jacob Crisman was the men’s top finisher, placing 15th overall in 18:47.3. Fellow freshman Connor Ward finished 17th in 18:54.1 and sophomore Casey Miller was 21st in 18:59.6. Freshman Joshua Prince was 27th overall in 19:20.7, sophomore Riley Tricas placed 37th in 19:38.9, sophomore Alexzander Osorio was 39th in 19:43.7 and senior Diego Razo-Castaneda finished 49th in 20:12.0.

The women’s team was also led by a freshman as Cate Bishop earned a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut. Bishop placed 10th overall in 18:51.5. Classmate Johnny Eggert was 13th in 18:55.2, sophomore Mira Danish was 28th in 19:25.4, freshman Sydney Brantley was 29th in 19:30.9, freshman Gia Petrini placed 30th in 19:32.5 and junior Kristina Shkalenkova was 51st in 21:01.6.

Next up for the Redhawks will be the Saint Mary’s College Invitational in Moraga, Calif., which will feature multiple West Coast Conference teams and serve as the first men’s 8k and women’s 6k this season.
