SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball has announced the addition of guard Tómas Thrastarson to its roster for the 2026-27 season. Thrastarson joins the Redhawks after spending the past two seasons at Washington State.

“Tómas is a versatile guard with great size and experience competing at a high level,” said head coach Chris Victor. “His success in the WCC, combined with his international experience representing Iceland, gives him a strong foundation to make an immediate impact in our program. He has the ability to affect the game in a variety of ways and we're excited to welcome him to Seattle.”

As a sophomore in 2025-26, the 6-foot-7 guard appeared in 19 games despite missing 12 contests due to a foot injury suffered during the first game of West Coast Conference play. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while posting a career-high 20 points against Nevada. He also recorded a career-best eight rebounds in a victory over Mercer before returning to action late in the season.

During his freshman campaign in 2024-25, Thrastarson earned WCC All-Freshman Team honors after appearing in 31 games with 11 starts. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Cougars while shooting 57 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. He recorded a then career-high 17 points in a start against Loyola Marymount.

A native of Thorlakshofn, Iceland, Thrastarson developed through the ranks of Thor Thorlakshofn's youth system, competing for the club's U18 and U20 teams before graduating from Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurland in Selfoss in 2024.

Thrastarson has also represented Iceland in international competition. He competed for Iceland's U18 and U20 National Teams and was a standout performer at the FIBA U20 European Championships, where he averaged 16.3 points per game while leading his team in both scoring and efficiency. He also averaged more than 16 points per game across multiple appearances with Iceland's U20 squad.
