SAN DIEGO - Seattle University softball (19-32, 5-13 WCC) would drop the series to San Diego (22-30, 7-11 WCC) in a 3-0 decision at Reggie Smith Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon in its regular season finale.
Senior Brooklyn Jones led the team with one hit in three at bats while junior Karen Spadafora took two walks.
Freshman Audrey Borup led the team from first base, logging six putouts. Senior Taylor Fitch aided the effort with a team leading three assists.
Junior Avari Morris led the team from the circle, pitching 5.0 innings of the contest. She faced 21 batters and struck out four. Junior Berkley Vance earned the start and pitched 1.0 innings. She faced six batters.
The Toreros struck first in the bottom of the first off of a pair of doubles to take the 2-0 lead into the second. Spadafora was the first Redhawk to get on base, taking a walk in her first plate appearance of the day. A pair of back to back hits set up the final run of the contest for San Diego as the Toreros led 3-0 after two innings.
An offensive stalemate ensued following the second inning, after only one runner saw a base in the third. Fitch and Spadafora each got a base in the top of the fourth behind a USD error and walk respectively, but the Redhawks were unable to break through the shutout. Morris picked up her third strikeout of the day in the bottom of the fourth to leave two Toreros stranded.
The two teams exchanged 1-2-3 innings in the fifth before Morris logged her final strikeout in the sixth inning to keep the Toreros scoreless through four frames. Jones logged the lone hit for the Redhawks in the top of the seventh off the first pitch she saw, but the Redhawks could not extend the contest, falling 3-0 to San Diego.
