SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Seattle University women’s rowing placed five, Amina Malkin, Camila Torres, Sophie Schmidt, Delaney Snaric, and Izzy Teal, on the All-West Coast Conference Women’s Rowing All-Academic first team, the most of any WCC school, while also naming four as honorable mentions in recognition of their academic and athletic success this season.
The quintet of Redhawks (Malkin, Torres, Schmidt, Snaric and Teal) have been pivotal pieces of both SU’s V8+ and 2V8+ boats this season, with appearances in nearly every regatta spanning the group. Seattle U also earned four honorable mentions in Faith Dickey, Rhian Ogawa, Anna Lingle and Jasmine Liu. The group also have raced in nearly every SU appearance this season, predominantly racing V8+.
Twenty five student-athletes made up the All-WCC All-Academic team, the Redhawks accounting for 20 percent of the group in their first season as a full conference member.
To earn the distinction, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore athletic and academic status at their respective institution while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2. Athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s races this season to be eligible.
The Redhawks prepare for their first conference postseason championships in Northern California where they will race all nine other of their WCC counterparts on Lake Natoma.
