STOCKTON, Calif. - Senior Ava Sin tied the Seattle University softball (16-19, 2-0 WCC) single game record with three doubles to guide the Redhawks to a 12-1 five inning victory over Pacific (12-25, 0-5 WCC) at Bill Simoni Field on Friday evening.
Sin was one of two Redhawks with three hits on the evening, leading the team with three doubles in four at bats. She guided the offense with six RBI and scored two runs. Junior Mikee Morris posted three hits in three at bats and accounted for one stolen base.
A trio of Redhawks also went for multiple hits, with junior Karen Spadafora leading the group with two hits, including her seventh homer of the season, in three at bats. Spadafora ended the contest with five RBI. Junior Avari Morris collected two hits and scored a team leading three runs, which tied her career high in runs scored. Senior Taylor Fitch rounded out the trio with two hits and two runs in four at bats.
Junior Sophia Kissling matched both Fitch and Sin with two runs. Kissling and senior Brooklyn Jones each posted hits in the contest.
Guiding from the circle was junior Berkley Vance. Vance pitched all 5.0 innings of the contest and faced 20 batters. She struck out three while only allowing three hits and a run for her sixth win of the season from the circle.
Aiding the defense was graduate Jay Ross, who led the team with five putouts at first base. Fitch and Mikee Morris combined for four assists.
The Redhawks went for 12 runs and 14 hits without committing an error for the second night in a row. It was SU’s 17th game with 10+ hits on the season.
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the first with an RBI double facing two outs. SU’s defense settled in after the first frame, orchestrating a 1-2-3 bottom of the second. Avari Morris led off the third with a single before Fitch moved her into scoring position with a double facing one out. Sin recorded her first 2 RBI double to score both Fitch and Morris to give the Redhawks their first lead of the contest.
Pacific responded with a pair of hits in the bottom of the third but the Redhawk infield made quick work to leave them stranded. Three Redhawks got on board with no outs in the top of the fourth as Jones and Kissling were both walked. Avari Morris reached on a Tiger error. Jones scored off an RBI single from Fitch before Sin sent out her second 2 RBI double of the day. Spadafora followed suit with her seventh home run of the season, scoring both Fitch and Sin to put the Redhawks up 8-1 after the fourth. SU’s defense once again sent down all three batters faced in the inning.
Jones led off the fifth with a single as freshman Jaeden Sajec entered to run for the second baseman. Kissling advanced Sajec into scoring position with a single before Avari Morris loaded the bases with a base hit. Sin recorded her third 2 RBI double to score Sajec and Kissling. Spadafora earned two more RBI with a single to score Sin and Morris, building the Redhawks lead 12-1.
Vance recorded her third strikeout in the bottom of the fifth before the Redhawks wrapped the contest in five innings with two ground outs to secure the second win of the series over the Tigers.
