CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seattle University softball (19-25, 5-6 WCC) battled after facing an early deficit, but could not overcome Oregon State (18-31, 6-8 WCC) in the final frames, falling 13-9 at Kelly Field on Saturday afternoon.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seattle University softball (19-25, 5-6 WCC) battled after facing an early deficit, but could not overcome Oregon State (18-31, 6-8 WCC) in the final frames, falling 13-9 at Kelly Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Ava Sin led the team with three hits and two runs in four at bats. Sin was one of four Redhawks with multiple hits in the contest.

Senior Brooklyn Jones recorded two hits, including a double in three at bats. Jones ended the day with two RBI and two runs.

Freshman Aurora Zepeda led the team with three RBI. Zepeda recorded two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs.

Senior Taylor Fitch rounded out the quartet with two hits and one run in four at bats.

Guiding the defense was graduate Jay Ross who tallied seven putouts from first base. Zepeda led the team with three assists from between the second and third base path.

Junior Avari Morris earned the start in the circle and pitched 1.0 innings of the contest. She faced 12 batters and struck out one. Junior Ellie Bostedt, sophomore Maya Mesa and freshman Kaia Galaviz each logged strikeouts in the contest.

The Redhawks combined for 12 hits for their 21st double digit hit performance this season.

Oregon State opened the contest with a two run homer in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Seattle U responded with two runs of its own in the top of the second after opening the inning with three straight reaches off two base hits. With the bases loaded and no outs, a single from Jones scored Sin from third. Facing one out, freshman Audrey Borup scored junior Karen Spadafora to level the contest 2-all. 

The Beavers went for seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to lead SU 9-2. After completing the comeback the day prior, The Redhawks came back with five runs in the third.

Fitch and Sin led the charge with back to back base hits before Fitch scored on a passed ball. Sophomore Abbie Fales earned a walk to get two runners on with two outs for Jones. Jones tallied her RBI double to score Sin before she was scored by Zepeda on the subsequent play. Zepeda scored off a stolen base and throwing error for SU’s final run of the third. OSU pushed back with a 2 RBI homer to lead 11-7 going into the fourth inning.

After a scoreless fourth, the Redhawks chipped at OSU’s lead with an RBI triple from Zepeda and RBI single from junior Sophia Kissling. The Beavers followed up with a run to lead 12-9 into the sixth and scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth, ultimately claiming the game 13-9.

Seattle U returns for the series finale rubber match at noon on Sunday at Kelly Field.
