SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (18-24, 4-5 WCC) travels for a three game series against Oregon State (17-30, 5-7 WCC0 looking to bounce back into the win column starting Friday, April 24 at Kelly Field. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Junior Avari Morris paces the team and the conference with a .429 batting average and 63 hits on the season. Morris is tied-70th in the nation and one of four WCC softball players batting above .400 on the year. She also ranks first in the conference with 39 runs scored this season.
Two Redhawks rank top-five in the league in RBIs, with senior Taylor Fitch leading the team with 47. She ranks second in the WCC. Senior Ava Sin sits fifth with 38 RBI. Fitch is third in the conference in home runs with 12. The seniors have combined for 93 hits this season, with Fitch ranking seventh in the league with 49. Sin is tied-first in the WCC with 17 doubles.
Fitch sits second on the team in batting average, holding a .371 average through 132 at bats. Sin is tenth in the conference with a .349 batting average.
Guiding the Redhawks from the circle is freshman Kaia Galaviz, who holds a 3.44 ERA through 19 appearances. Galaviz has earned the start in 10 contests while leading the Redhawks in wins with six. She has pitched 63.0 innings this season while striking out 48 batters.
Junior Berkley Vance also sits top-10 in the league, throwing 51 strikeouts in 22 appearances. Vance leads all Redhawk pitchers with 93.0 total innings pitched. Morris leads the group with 61 strikeouts.
Aiding the defense is junior Karen Spadafora who has recorded 175 putouts on the season. Graduate Jay Ross sits just behind with 166 putouts with the majority of her work at first base. Fitch leads the team with 71 assists from third.
The Redhawks are second in the conference with 367 hits, 240 runs, 39 home runs while ranking first in batting average, holding .314 as a team. Their 75 doubles leads the rest of the conference by eight. Defensively, SU is third in the league with 189 total strikeouts.
Seattle U and Oregon State began their series in 2009, last meeting a season ago as the Redhawks wrapped up their last year in the WAC. The teams split their last meetings, with SU taking the first contest at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Beavers lead the all-time series 12-4.
Oregon State is also looking to get back into the win column, falling in its past five games, including a non-conference contest with in-state rival Oregon. The Beavers moved to five wins in WCC action after claiming two of its last three home games against Pacific. They fell in all three road games to the Gaels. OSU is 5-6 at home on the year.
Following the weekend, the Redhawks return home for their final home series, hosting Santa Clara for senior weekend May 1-3 at Logan Field.
