SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball head coach John Bonner has announced the hiring of David Elliott as associate head coach of the program, who will spearhead the program's player development and external relations
Elliott, who brings with him a wealth of coaching experience to Seattle U, joins Bonner from CSU Fullerton, where he helped elevate the Titans to one of their best seasons in over 30 years. In a single season, the Titans saw 18 wins, and a 13-7 record in conference play. It was the program’s second winning season since 1990-91 and most conference wins since that same year.
Prior to joining Bonner’s previous staff, Elliott coached at Cal State Los Angeles for six seasons (2019-2025) while leading the recruiting efforts of the Golden Eagles. Under his assistance, CSU Los Angeles returned to the NCAA tournament for the first time in nearly a decade in 2023. Elliott and the Golden Eagles earned back-to-back NCAA appearances during his tenure.
As the program’s recruiter, Elliott coached two California Collegiate Athletic Association Freshman of the Years in Lily Buggs and Nicole Flennaugh. Flennaugh went on to earn All-American honors while Buggs was tabbed All-Region in two seasons at CSULA.
In his first four years at Cal State LA, the Golden Eagles went 69-46 and 54-31 in league play.
On the international stage, Elliott served as an assistant coach for the Women’s Mexican National team in the Americup in Chile.
Elliott saw coaching stops at Cornell, Denver, Knox College, Columbia and St. John Fischer. While at Cornell and at Denver, Elliott led oversight of recruiting, boasting top recruiting classes in both the Ivy and Summit Leagues.
Elliott got his coaching start at St. John Fischer, where he started delving into the world of recruiting. One of his recruiting classes would eventually lead the school to a 2015 Empire 8 conference championship and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
A native of Tucson, Ariz., Elliott earned his bachelor’s in microbiology from the University of Arizona. He also earned his Master’s in organizational learning and HR development from St. John Fischer College.
