SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (18-22, 4-4 WCC) dropped its second contest to LMU (27-15, 4-4 WCC) 8-0 in six innings at Logan Field on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Abbie Fales led the team with one hit in two at bats, while graduate Jay Ross matched Fales with a base hit, recording hers in the bottom of the sixth. Ross was also able to reach on a walk, with senior Ava Sin getting to base with a walk.
Junior Avari Morris led from the circle, pitching all 6.0 innings of the contest. She faced 36 batters and struck out three.
Ross and junior Karen Spadafora each posted four putouts on the day, with Spadafora catching a runner stealing early in the contest. Morris led the team with two assists.
The Lions struck first with two runs before Ross and Sin each drew walks in the bottom of the first, but SU could not draw in the two base runners, ending the first frame down two runs.
Fales got to second with a base hit to shallow center field, advancing to second on the throw after the Lions left the base open. Once more, the Lions kept the Redhawks from taking advantage of a runner in scoring position, keeping the 2-0 lead into the third.
Morris struck out one in the third, but the Lions would score three in the fourth on two hits and an error. LMU closed the contest with three more runs in the sixth with two hits and a ground out before Morris struck out the final batter. Ross got to first on a base hit facing one out but the Redhawks could not draw in the run to extend the contest to seven innings, falling 8-0.
SU returns to action on Sunday at 11 AM looking to bounce back into the win column.
