SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Kaia Galaviz garnered Seattle University softball’s program first West Coast Conference pitcher of the week honors following her series finale shutout over conference leader Saint Mary’s as announced by the league this afternoon.
Galaviz saw action in the circle twice in the series, opening the weekend pitching the final 2.0 innings of game two. On Saturday, the Fresno native held the Gaels scoreless in two frames. She faced six batters and struck out three without conceding a hit or a walk.
The freshman earned her ninth start of the season on Sunday, where she pitched her second complete game. In 6.0 innings of work, Galaviz faced 23 batters and struck out three, only allowing two hits and conceding three walks. The win was her sixth of the year. Galaviz is now tied first on the team in wins from the circle.
In her two appearances, Galaviz held a .00 ERA, limiting the Gaels to a .080 batting average. She did not allow a run or an extra base hit all weekend. The run rule shutout was just the program’s second shutout of the year and first since late February when the Redhawks defeated BYU 4-0.
After picking up the game three win over Saint Mary’s, the Redhawks moved into third in the conference standings with a 4-2 record in WCC contests. This is the third time this season that a Redhawk has taken home a WCC weekly award, with both senior Taylor Fitch and junior Avari Morris collecting player of the week honors. Galaviz is the first pitcher to receive a weekly award since the 2025 season, where the Redhawks grabbed three in their final season in the WAC.
Galaviz and the Redhawks return to Logan Field this week hosting LMU for a three game series in Seattle.
