SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (16-19, 3-0) returns to Logan Field for alumni weekend to host its first West Coast Conference series against Saint Mary’s (27-11, 3-0 WCC) from Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12 at Logan Field. All games can be streamed on ESPN+.
Junior Avari Morris leads the team with a .437 batting average. The dual threat paces the conference in batting average and ranks 66th in the country. Morris has a league leading 55 hits, which ranks tied 30th in the nation.
Senior Taylor Fitch is the second Redhawk batting over .400 on the season, ranking fifth on the team with a .417 batting average. Fitch also ranks fifth in the WCC in hits with 47. The third baseman is top-3 in the conference in home runs, with 12 recorded in 36 games. Fitch ranks tied 64th in the nation in home runs.
Three Redhawks rank top-10 in the conference in RBIs, with Fitch leading the group with 44, which is tied first in the WCC and tied 45th in the country. Senior Ava Sin is fourth in the conference with 38 RBI and junior Karen Spadafora is seventh in the WCC with 27 RBI. Sin is also tied tenth in the league with 39 hits, while Spadafora is second on the team in homers with seven. Sin ranks tied 15th in the nation in doubles with a team leading 14 doubles.
Leading from the circle is Morris with 56 strikeouts on the year through 16 appearances. Junior Berkley Vance ranks top-10 in the WCC in strikeouts alongside Morris, with 44 strikeouts. Vance is sixth in the league in innings pitched with 78.0. Freshman Kaia Galaviz leads the team with a 3.71 ERA.
Aiding the defense is Spadafora with 148 putouts and graduate Jay Ross with 136 putouts. Fitch leads the team with 62 assists.
The Redhawks and Gaels rank first and second in the WCC in batting average respectively with SU pacing the group with a combined .328 batting average. Seattle U leads the conference with 334 hits and 225 runs, which ranks 40th and tied 78th in the nation. SU also leads the league in doubles with 67 while ranking second with 37 homers.
Through 233.2 innings pitched, the Redhawks have combined for 166 strikeouts, which ranks third in the WCC.
The Redhawks lead the all-time series against the Gaels 6-2. They have won the last three meetings dating back to 2018. The two programs meet for the first time since the 2019 season and for the first time as WCC opponents.
Saint Mary’s sits tied with Seattle U with a 3-0 record in conference play. The Gaels come off three victories over ranked foes, downing both Washington and Stanford over the past weekend. The Redhawks opened conference play with a 3-0 road sweep over Pacific.
Seattle U will be celebrating its alumni all weekend long, highlighting the three game series with a tailgate ahead of Saturday’s game. Saturday will also be SU’s first bark in the park. Waivers can be filled out prior to or at the game on Saturday. The tailgate is slated for 1 PM on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 PM. Friday’s contest starts at 5 PM and the series concludes on Sunday at noon.
