SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Junior dual-threat Avari Morris took home Seattle University softball’s second West Coast Conference player of the week recognition of the season following her performance in the Redhawks’ marathon weekend to elevate SU to a perfect weekend at home as announced by the league this afternoon.
Morris batted .500 spanning the three games against Montana at home this weekend, accumulating five hits, including a double and a home run, two RBI and two runs. She posted a 1.000 slugging percentage across her ten at bats over the weekend to lead SU to a perfect record at home to start the year.
She also saw action in the circle, tossing a complete game of 7.0 innings for her third win of the season. She faced 27 batters and struck out a season high eight while holding the Grizzlies to .160 batting.
Morris leads the conference with a season .434 batting average while ranking third in the league in total triples (2), runs (26) and hits (36). This is her first weekly award as a hitter and third of her career after securing back-to-back WAC pitcher of the week recognitions in 2025.
On Friday, Morris’ 2 RBI home run secured the tie in the third inning. It was her second home run of the season and first recorded in a home contest in 2026. In SU’s comeback win in game three on Saturday, her triple aided in the bottom of the first, setting up Seattle U’s first run of the day to chip at the Redhawks’ 5-0 deficit in the 8-7 comeback victory for the series home sweep.
Morris and the Redhawks remain at home this weekend, hosting Sacramento State for a three game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.
