SEATTLE — The outdoor season is underway for the Seattle University track and field team.

The Redhawks will stay close to home to begin the season, competing in the Ed Boitano Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., from March 6-7.

The two-day event will be hosted by the University of Puget Sound, and will be the first of two trips to Tacoma to begin the season; the Pacific Lutheran University Invite will take place March 13-14.

The outdoor season features potential for new school records, with a handful of student athletes already in the Seattle U record books

On the men’s side, Seku Sanders and Osaze Demund will look to improve on the second and third best 800m times, respectively, in school history.

Rock Gignac will aim to climb the all-time Seattle U leaderboard in a plethora of events; he already holds top-10 marks in the 110m hurdles, discus throw, javelin throw, and decathlon. Zachary Schriner also enters the season with the sixth-best javelin throw in Seattle U history.

In the triple jump, Matthew Fiso will be chasing himself. Fiso recorded the best triple jump in school history – 14.28m – in 2025. Fiso also holds a top-10 long jump, and will be fresh off competing in three events unattached throughout the winter indoor season. JR Zamora has the opportunity to break barriers as well; Zamora has the second-best long jump and the third-best triple jump in Seattle U history under his belt.

The women’s side has no shortage of returning talent, either.

Annabelle Clapp has top-10 times in the 400m and 800m races, and was on the 4x400m relay team that set the best time in school history in 2025. Clapp was joined in that record-setting relay by Kristina Shkalenkova, who also returns to the Redhawks for the 2026 season.

Jumping records stand to be broken by Zoe Tibbo, who holds the third-best long jump and sixth-best triple jump in school history. Tibbo competed in three events unattached in the indoor season.

Rachel Albright enters the season possessing the sixth-best hammer throw in school history, and Hoku Matsushima holds the sixth-best javelin throw.
