SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Kale Hammer has been named the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The lefty becomes the first Redhawk to be named to the weekly honor this season.
The sophomore out of Snohomish, WA, tossed a gem in Seattle U's 5-2 victory over Pacific on Saturday. He went 7.2 IP and did not allow an earned run while striking out eight Tigers to lead the Redhawks to their first WCC victory in program history.
“Kale was lights out," Head Coach Donny Harrel said. "He had a working pen prior to this start and really made an adjustment to his change-up. Pacific started nine right-handed hitters to combat his breaking ball and the change-up came into play to fight that and it was dominant. I am very proud of him.”
The victory was also the first of Hammer's collegiate career, and his innings pitched along with strikeouts were career-best marks. He currently leads the team in WHIP, innings pitched, and opponent batting average.
Hammer becomes the first player of the week selection for the Redhawk program since Nestor German took home the honor in the Western Athletic Conference on March 20, 2023.
