SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (14-10) embarks on a quest through Idaho and Montana, battling both Idaho State (18-12) and the Grizzlies (5-19) through the long weekend. The Redhawks stop for a three game series in Pocatello before capping the road trip in Missoula for three games.
SU returns to action for the first time since March 7, following a three game sweep of Montana at Logan Field. The Redhawks’ three game series against Sacramento State was canceled due to weather conditions impacting travel.
Junior Avari Morris leads the team with a .434 batting average and 36 hits in 83 at bats. Morris is one of three Redhawks that are batting over .400 on the season, with seniors Taylor Fitch and Ava Sin also ranking top-10 in the conference alongside Morris in batting average. Fitch is batting .429 and leads the team with nine home runs and 33 RBI on the year. Sin is hitting .412 this season, posting 25 RBI and 28 hits in 68 at bats.
Both Fitch and Morris have combined 52 runs and rank tied-second in the WCC in individual runs scored. Fitch has also eclipsed 30 hits on the season, ranking tied-11th in the conference.
Leading the team from the circle is junior Berkley Vance, who has pitched 53.2 innings on the season. Vance has led the Redhawks to five wins while handing out 36 strikeouts this season. Dual threat Avari Morris is also a pivotal piece to the Redhawk pitching unit, tossing 41.1 innings on the year. Her 40 strikeouts ranks sixth in the WCC.
Aiding the defense is junior Karen Spadafora, who leads the team with 108 putouts. She is one of nine WCC players with over 100+ putouts on the season thus far. Graduate Jay Ross also ranks amongst the top-15 in the league, with 74 putouts between first and second base.
Ross and Spadafora play a hand in the Redhawk offense, combining for 46 hits on the season. Spadafora resides in the top-10 in the conference alongside Sin and Fitch in homers, posting four on the young season. Ross is one of four Redhawks with four doubles this year.
The Redhawks lead the WCC in runs with 164 and RBIs with 157 this season. Their 217 hits ranks third in the conference with the fewest games played of any of their counterparts. SU ranks second in the league in doubles with 44 and home runs with 25. Seattle U’s .327 batting average leads the WCC and ranks 49th in the nation.
Seattle U and Idaho State meet for the first time since 2021. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 11-12 since the start of the series in 2009. SU meets up with Montana for the second time this season and in as many weeks, improving to 12-6 in the all-time series.
Following the weekend, the Redhawks remain on the road traveling to Omaha for a three game series against Creighton to cap their spring break.
