TACOMA, Wash. — Inclement weather limited the Seattle U track and field team at the PLU Open, held from March 13-14 by Pacific Lutheran University.

A mix of snow and ice on Friday prevented the Redhawks from competing in jumping and sprinting events. But Seattle U still made the most of the circumstances, competing in the javelin and hammer throwing events.

In Friday’s women’s hammer throw, Rachel Albright recorded a 35.79m throw. Albright holds the sixth-best hammer throw in school history at 39.04m.

Saturday yielded better weather, and a Seattle U trio capitalized in the javelin throw.

The Redhawks were represented on the men’s side by Zachary Schriner, Rock Gignac and Jackson Jarrett. Schriner and Gignac hold the sixth and seventh-best javelin throw in school history, respectively.

On Saturday, Gignac recorded a 45.84m javelin throw, nearing his personal-best of 46.50m in his first outdoor competition of the season. Gignac’s throw was the sixth-best out of 16 competitors at the PLU Open.

Schriner’s best throw was 44.58m, which was good for eighth place in the meet. Jarrett recorded a throw of 38.69m.

The Redhawks will look ahead to a full slate of competition – and better weather —  next weekend at the PNW Invite, hosted by Oregon State University from Mar. 20-21 in Corvallis, Ore.
