SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (14-10) returns to action at Logan Field for a three-game series against Sacramento State (18-8) holding a three game home winning streak following a perfect home debut last weekend. The Redhawks and Hornets meet first for a Saturday doubleheader slated for 2 PM and wrap the series on Sunday at noon.

Saturday’s doubleheader features Seattle U’s first bark in the park event, with fans in attendance able to go home with a custom SU red bandana for their furry friends. All dogs in attendance must have a completed waiver form, which will be available at the marketing table near the entrance. K cards will also be available for the weekend series.

Junior Avari Morris leads the Redhawks on the season and comes off her first ever West Coast Conference player of the week recognition following her performance against Montana. The dual threat paces the team and the league with a .434 batting average. She is one of three Redhawks that ranks top-five in the conference in hitting, with senior Taylor Fitch claiming second with a .429 batting average and .959 slugging. Senior Ava Sin sits fifth with a .412 batting average. 

Morris leads the trio with 36 hits this season, while Fitch sits second with 30. Sin has 28 on the year to round out the Redhawks in the WCC’s top-10. Graduate Jay Ross and junior Karen Spadafora rank in the top-25 in the league in hits, with Ross tallying 24 and Spadafora 22 on the year thus far. 

Fitch leads the team with 33 RBI, a mark that is second in the conference, while Sin sits fourth with 25. Morris and Spadafora sit 8th in the WCC with 17 RBI. Fitch and Morris lead the team in runs scored, each securing 26 on the year to rank second in the league. Fitch is second in the WCC in home runs with nine, while Morris ranks third in the WCC in doubles with nine.

Guiding the team from the circle is junior Berkley Vance. Vance has appeared in 13 contests on the year and led SU to five wins. She has tossed a team leading 53.2 innings in that time span, ranking sixth in the WCC. Her 36 strikeouts ranks eighth in the conference. Morris leads the team in strikeouts with 40, a mark that ranks fourth in the WCC. 

Spadafora aids the defense with 108 putouts on the season, while Ross adds an additional 74. Fitch leads the team with 43 assists between third base and shortstop. 

Seattle U ranks first in the conference with a combined .327 batting average through 24 games. The Redhawks rank second in the league with 217 hits. Their 157 RBI and 164 runs scored lead the conference, along with their 44 doubles. SU ranks second in the league with 25 total home runs. Defensively, the Redhawks rank second in the conference with 122 strikeouts and 469 putouts. 

Amongst the national ranks, Seattle U is 49th in batting average, tied-45th in hits, 38th in RBIs and tied-50th in runs. Morris ranks tied-41st in the country in hits and tied-33rd in doubles, while Fitch ranks tied-31st in home runs and tied-30th in RBIs.

Seattle U and Sacramento meet for the first time since the 2023 season and for the first time ever in Seattle. The pair have faced each other five times dating back to 2012, with the Redhawks holding the series edge 3-2 following a 7-0 victory over the Hornets in Sacramento in 2023. SU is 2-2 against Sac State on a neutral field.

Following the weekend, the Redhawks travel over spring break with stops in Pocatello and Missoula to take on both Idaho State and Montana. They return home on April 10 to host their first WCC home series against Saint Mary’s.
