FULLERTON, Calif. - Seattle University softball (11-9) completed its early tournament slate locked in a defensive standoff against Judi Garman Classic host CSU Fullerton before falling to the Titans (9-9) 4-0 at Anderson Family Field on Sunday afternoon.

Three different Redhawks recorded hits in the contest, with graduate Jay Ross grabbing one for extra bases, recording a double. Junior Mikee Morris and sophomore Abbie Fales rounded out the trio with base hits.

Ross led the defense with four putouts at second base, while Morris added an additional three. Senior Brooklyn Jones posted four putouts from first. Senior Taylor Fitch matched Ross with two assists on the day.

Leading from the circle was junior Avari Morris who pitched 5.0 innings of the contest. She faced 23 batters and struck out one. Junior Berkley Vance pitched the final inning, facing four batters without conceding a hit or a run.

The Titans struck first off a solo shot homer in the bottom of the first after stranding Morris, who reached first with her single, with a double play. Ross recorded her double in the top of the second before Fales got on board with her single to advance Ross to third. Fullerton thwarted SU’s attempt for a tie after collecting two outs.

Seattle U stranded three Titan runners in the second to stay within a run before sending down all three Fullerton batters in the bottom of the third. The fourth went scoreless as both defenses worked to quickly shut down the opposing offenses. The Titans struck again in the bottom of the fifth, putting on the pressure with their small ball. Morris stopped the surge, tossing out her strikeout, catching them looking.

SU got one more runner on after an error by the Fullerton infield, but could not get on board in the final two frames, falling to the Titans 4-0.

The Redhawks return to action on Tuesday when they visit cross town rival No. 24 Washington before hosting their first home series against Montana March 6-8.
