HONOLULU - Saturday’s rematch against host Hawai’i would favor Seattle University softball as senior Taylor Fitch tied the DI program hits record to lift the Redhawks (3-2) over the Rainbow Wahine (4-1) 9-3 inside Rainbow Wahine Stadium on Saturday Night.

Fitch tallied a new career high four hits in five at bats, a feat that ties the DI program record for the 14th time in program history. Junior Avari Morris tied the record 24 hours prior against North Dakota. Fitch finished the day with two RBI and two runs, tallying a home run for the third straight game. The third baseman led the team in assists, recording three.

Junior Avari Morris and graduate Jay Ross also tallied multi-hit games. Morris recorded three, including a home run, while scoring a team leading three runs. Seniors Ava Sin and Brooklyn Jones also had multiple RBIs, each recording two on the day. Jones and Ross each registered doubles, while Ross led the team with six putouts.

Junior Berkley Vance collected her second win of the weekend from the circle, pitching all seven innings of the contest. She faced 29 batters and struck out four while only allowing five hits.

Seattle U hit a combined .348 while holding the Rainbow Wahine to a .185 batting average.

The Redhawks struck first in the top of the first inning after Sin recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to draw in Ross. Ross had reached base off a double to left field while Fitch also moved into scoring position off a base hit. Junior Karen Spadafora filled the bases after she was walked before Sin brought in Ross with SU’s second out of the inning. The Rainbow Wahine took their first and only lead of the contest behind a RBI double in the bottom of the first.

Both teams went scoreless through the second, with Vance shutting the door with back-to-back strikeouts for the 1-2-3 inning. Morris struck first in the top of the third with a home run out of deep center field. Fitch followed suit, going the distance out of left field to give the Redhawks back the lead. Facing two outs, Sin singled and sophomore Abbie Fales was walked to put Sin in scoring position. Jones scored Sin and Fales with her 2 RBI double before freshman Aurora Zepeda scored Jones with her RBI double. The Redhawks logged five runs on five hits to take the 7-2 advantage over Hawai’i.

Seattle U held the Rainbow Wahine scoreless through the next four innings as the Redhawks continued to put up the pressure offensively. Both Morris and Fitch scored in the top of the fourth off a single from Spadafora and a Hawai’i error.

Fitch drafted up her second RBI of the day, scoring Morris after three straight singles from Morris, Ross and Fitch. SU took the 9-2 advantage into the sixth, as Vance logged her final two strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Rainbow Wahine tallied one final run in the bottom of the seventh as the Redhawks downed their host in their rematch 9-3.

Seattle U returns to action next weekend, traveling to UNLV to take on Quinnipiac, UC Davis and UNLV at the Desert Classic. The Redhawks debut at home the first weekend of March against Montana.
