SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball looks to get back on track in its return to the Redhawk Center this week, hosting West Coast Conference rival Pepperdine on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

  • Seattle U could not complete the season sweep of intra-state rival Washington state as the Cougars defended their home court in a 70-58 final in Pullman on Jan. 28.
  • The Redhawks moved to 14-9 on the season and 3-7 in WCC play following the loss.
  • After going 12-3 through their first 15 games on the season (all played in 2025), the Redhawks have gone 2-6 since the calendar flipped to 2026.
  • Brayden Maldonado had 12 points to lead Seattle U at Washington State, marking the 13th time this season, and fourth consecutive game, that he has led the team in scoring.
  • Austin Maurer added 10 points for his eighth double-digit scoring output of the season.
  • Maleek Arington collected five steals against the Cougars, bringing his season total to 50.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS PEPPERDINE

  • This marks the 34th all-time meeting between Seattle U and Pepperdine.
  • The teams have met just three times in Seattle U’s modern DI era, most recently in 2015.
  • The Redhawks hosted the Waves in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament on March 18, 2015. Seattle U won, 62-45 at the Redhawk Center.
  • The all-time series dates back to 1951, though the bulk of the regular meetings came from 1972 through 1980 when the programs were both members of the West Coast Athletic Conference (now WCC).
  • Seattle U leads the all-time series 21-12 and is 14-3 against the Waves in Seattle.
  • The Redhawks won the last two meetings following a four-game win streak for Pepperdine.

RECORD BOOK WATCH

  • Will Heimbrodt has 55 blocks through 23 games, leading the WCC and ranking among the nation’s best in the statistical category.
  • With eight games remaining in the regular season, Heimbrodt has moved into fourth in Seattle U’s single-season record book.
  • Currently in third is David White (2006-07) with 57 blocks.
  • Seattle U’s all-time record for blocks in a single season is 79, set by Aaron Menzies during the 2017-18 season.

NUMBERS WATCH

  • The 69-59 win over LMU on Jan. 21 was No. 94 at Seattle U for Head Coach Chris Victor. He is six wins away from the century mark while leading the Redhawks. Victor is also three wins away from 200 for his career as a head coach, which also includes six seasons at Citrus College in California.
  • John Christofilis has poured in 136 threes in two-plus seasons at SU, putting him in striking distance of entering the SU all-time top-list this year. Sitting tied for 10th are Mack Junior (95-99) and Arne Klubberud (95-99), each with 144 career threes.
  • Maleek Arington enters Wednesdays match-up at Washington State with 902 career points and eyes becoming a third member of the 2025-26 squad to surpass 1,000 career points. He would join Jojo Murphy (1,482 career points) and Brayden Maldonado (1,357 career points).
