PULLMAN, Wash. - Seattle University women’s basketball traded lulls and runs with Washington State throughout the duration of Thursday night’s contest, but the Cougars (6-24, 5-12 WCC) pulled away in the second half to defeat the Redhawks (5-23, 1-16 WCC) 69-55 inside Beasley Coliseum.

Graduate Ella Brubaker collected her 24th double digit scoring effort of the season, guiding the team with 17 points on 58.3 percent shooting from the floor. She combined for seven field goals and 3-for-3 shooting from the free throw line while picking up three rebounds.

Fellow graduate Andjela Bigovic went for double digits, scoring 14 points coming off the bench. Bigovic shot perfect from the stripe, combining for eight made free throws while connecting for three makes from the field. Her eight makes from the line is a new career high. Bigovic finished the night with three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin finished just shy of a double-double, scoring nine points while collecting nine rebounds. Stricklin paced the team with two makes from behind the arc while grabbing a block and two steals on the defensive end.

Freshman Chloe Emanga matched Stricklin with nine rebounds, grabbing four offensive boards. Emanga went five for six from the free throw line while scoring seven points on the night. 

The Redhawks tallied 17 free throws to match Washington State, while knocking down 17 field goals including four triples. They out scored the Cougars in both the second and fourth quarters, holding Washington State to just eight second quarter points. SU forced nine turnovers and collected 11 points off WSU miscues. 

Brubaker kicked off the night scoring seven points through the opening ten minutes shooting 75 percent from the floor. The Redhawks faced an early deficit as turnovers disrupted their offense early in the first quarter. They trailed by 12 after the Cougars closed on a 4-0 run from the free throw line. 

Stricklin shot 50 percent in the second quarter, netting her first triple of the night to score five points. She led the team in the second with four rebounds. Emanga went perfect from the floor and from the stripe to score four. The Redhawks held Washington State to 21.1 percent shooting before the break and pulled within seven, 29-22, at halftime behind a 7-2 run.

Bigovic and Brubaker combined for ten points in the third quarter, with Bigovic leading the way with six points. She went four-for-four from the stripe. Freshman Jana Vesic led SU in the closing ten minutes, scoring five points while Emanga grabbed five rebounds. After trailing by as many as 19, a 7-0 run by the Redhawks through the middle of the fourth quarter pulled SU back within 12. Bigovic secured the final bucket of the contest as the Redhawks fell 69-55.

Seattle U returns home for its final regular season contest to host Pepperdine for its Senior Day inside the Redhawk Center on Saturday at 1 PM.
