SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-23, 1-16 WCC) wraps its first year in the West Coast Conference hosting Pepperdine (18-11, 9-8 WCC) for its senior day at the Redhawk Center on Saturday at 1 PM. The Redhawks will recognize redshirt Tamia Stricklin, graduate Ella Brubaker and graduate Andjela Bigovic prior to Saturday’s 1 PM tip.
Brubaker leads the team averaging 16.2 points a contest to rank tied fourth in the WCC. She'll lead the Redhawks against her former squad in her senior finale shooting 44.9 percent from the field, ranking 15th in the league to bookend her six year collegiate career. The Pepperdine alum's 154 made field goals is sixth in the conference. Brubaker leads the team from the free throw line, shooting 83.2 percent. On the defensive end, she leads the team with 46 steals, a feat that ranks 9th in the WCC. Brubaker comes off her 24th double-digit scoring performance of the season, leading the Redhawks with 17 points in the defeat to Washington State on Thursday night.
Stricklin is SU’s second double-digit scorer, posting 10.2 points per contest. She leads the team in three point percentage, recording a 36.0 percent clip from behind the arc, and in rebounds, hauling in 5.9 a game. Stricklin ranks 9th in the WCC in rebounds per game. She nearly posted a double-double on Thursday, scoring nine and grabbing nine rebounds. Stricklin caps her second year in Seattle seeing new career highs across multiple categories in her final collegiate season.
Bigovic comes off a 13 point performance against the Cougars where she scored a new career best eight free throws on eight attempts. She leads the team in blocks and ranks 25th in the WCC with 13 on the season. Bigovic is posting 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Like Brubaker and Stricklin, Bigovic has flourished in her final season of college basketball, posting career bests in a range of categories.
Brubaker enters Saturday with 2,104 points spanning her six years spent between The Master's, Pepperdine and Seattle U. On the season, she has scored 454 points, a new D-I season best. Brubaker captured career season highs in field goals made (154), triples (37), free throws (109), rebounds (125), assists (30), blocks (12) and steals (47) this season.
Stricklin has scored 720 points after four years split between Fresno State and Seattle U. In her senior year, she has recorded career season highs in points (276), field goals made (104), free throws (26), rebounds (130), assists (49) and blocks (8).
Bigovic concludes her collegiate career with 660 points across her time at Cochise College, Tarleton State and Seattle U. In her lone season in Seattle, she has achieved D-I career season bests in points (170), field goals made (66), free throws (19), rebounds (104) and steals (13).
Freshman Jana Vesic orchestrates the offense averaging 2.6 assists per game. She’s scoring 7.9 points on 38.4 per cent shooting from the floor.
The Redhawks have posted 618 field goals on the season, including 156 triples. They lead the WCC and rank 9th in the country in free throw percentage, posting a 79.6 percent clip from the stripe. SU averages 33.3 rebounds, 6.8 steals and 2.8 blocks a contest. The Redhawks rank 7th in the WCC in blocks per game.
Pepperdine and Seattle U meet for the sixth time in program history dating back to 2012. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 1-4 after falling to the Waves at the end of January and go for their first program win over Pepperdine at home.
Since the pair last met, the Waves have gone 5-2 in their last seven games and are currently enjoying a three game winning streak, last defeating Portland on Thursday night by seven.
Following the weekend, the Redhawks prepare to debut at their first ever West Coast Conference tournament in Las Vegas. The championship weekend starts Thursday, March 8th with seeding to be finalized at the conclusion of regular season competition this weekend.
