SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Senior Sophie Schmidt and junior Camila Torres earned Seattle University women’s rowing two nods to the 2026 West Coast Conference preseason rowing team as announced by the league this morning.
Schmidt and Torres join 22 of their conference counterparts as part of the 24 woman preseason team. The Redhawks tie Santa Clara, Sacramento State, Portland, San Diego and Saint Mary’s with two rowers selected for preseason honors as nominated by the ten coaches of the league.
Both Schmidt and Torres returned to action in the fall, starting Varsity 8 in Tail of the Lake and Head of the Lake regattas this past October. Schmidt made her collegiate debut in 2023 where she guided SU’s Second Varsity 8 boat to a fifth place finish at WIRAs Petite Final. Torres rowed in eight races last season, capping the year racing for Varsity 8 at the Windermere Cup.
The Redhawks make their official WCC debut with their first race of the season on March 14 at the Puget Sound Invite where I-5 rival Portland will race alongside Seattle U on American Lake. They join the rest of the conference at Lake Natoma for the WCC Championships in mid-May.
