SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-22, 1-15 WCC) embarks on its final regular season road conference game of the year, traveling to the east side of the state to take on Washington State (5-24, 4-12 WCC) in Beasley Coliseum on Thursday evening.
Graduate Ella Brubaker leads the Redhawks averaging 16.2 points per game, ranking fifth in the conference in scoring. Brubaker is shooting 44.4 percent on the year and ranks sixth in the WCC in field goals made (144). She paces the team from the free throw line, shooting 82.8 percent from the stripe while spearheading the defense with 26 steals.
In four of her last five outings, Brubaker has put up 20 or more points. On the year, the University Place native has scored 437 points, building upon her DI career season best. She has scored in double digits in 23 contests this season.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin is SU’s second double-digit scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game. Stricklin is shooting 40.2 percent from the field on the season while leading the team in three point percentage (36.1). Her 151 rebounds leads the team and marks a new career season high for the Renton native. Stricklin ranks ninth in the conference averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.
Freshman Jana Vesic orchestrates the Redhawk offense, handing out 2.7 assists per game. She ranks top-20 in the league in assists per game. Vesic scores 8.0 points per game for Seattle U shooting 38.6 percent from the floor.
Freshman Chloe Emanga has gone perfect from the free throw line over the last five games when registering an attempt. She is 16-16 dating back to early February.
Graduate Andjela Bigovic and junior Lucija Milkovic lead the defense with 13 blocks each this season. Milkovic has seven in league play and while ranking 16th in field goal percentage (45.2).
The Redhawks have combined for 601 field goals and 152 triples on the season while ranking first in the WCC and ninth in the nation in free throw percentage (79.1). They grab 33.4 rebounds a contest. On the defensive end, they tally 2.8 blocks and 6.9 steals. SU ranks tied-sixth in the conference in blocks per game.
Seattle U and Washington State meet for the 14th time in program history dating back to 1978. The pair have met three times in SU’s Division I era since restarting the series in 2013. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 2-11 after the Cougars captured their first conference meeting in early January. SU and WSU meet for the final time in WCC regular season play as the Redhawks pursue their first road win of the season and first program win in Pullman.
Since the pair last met, the Cougars have gone 2-10, defeating both Saint Mary’s and San Diego on the road. Washington State sits at 1-11 at home on the year and 4-12 in WCC play.
Following Thursday’s game, the Redhawks return home for their regular season finale to celebrate their three seniors when they host Pepperdine at the Redhawk Center on Saturday afternoon.
