SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball is home for the final time this season hosting the Portland Pilots in a key West Coast Conference matchup on Saturday, Feb. 21. Tip off from the Redhawk Center is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Prior to the game, Seattle U will honor seniors Maleek Arington, John Christofilis, Brayden Maldonado and Jojo Murphy.

- Seattle U went toe-to-toe with Saint Mary’s on Wednesday, Feb. 18, rallying from a 14-point deficit to lead late in the game. But the Gaels, receiving votes in the most recent top-25 polls, prevailed 72-70.
- The result moved the Redhawks to 16-12 on the season and 5-10 in WCC play.
- Seattle U sits in a three-way tie with Portland and San Diego for 8th in the WCC amidst a log-jammed middle of the standings. Just 2.5 games separate 4th through the three-way tie for 8th as teams battle for seeding in the WCC Tournament.
- Junseok Yeo led the Redhawks in scoring against the Gaels, finishing with 20 points, his second career game with 20 points or more. The other was also against Saint Mary’s as he finished with a career-high 24 points in this season’s first meeting.
- Jojo Murphy earned his first Seattle U start in the game, replacing an injured Brayden Maldonado. Murphy added 10 points, his second straight double-digit outing, in a season-high 33 minutes.
- Will Heimbrodt had 14 points and a pair of blocks. Austin Maurer added nine points and five rebounds.
- Seattle U is now 12-4 at home this season including 9-2 at the Redhawk Center, 3-2 at Climate Pledge Arena.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS PORTLAND
- With the all-time series dating back to the 1940s, Seattle U and Portland have a storied history as Pacific Northwest rivals.
- Seattle U holds a 77-32 all-time record over the Pilots.
- The teams have 10 meetings in the Redhawks’ modern day Division I era, including six straight wins for Seattle U until a 54-53 Pilot win on Feb. 7, 2026 halted the streak.
- The Redhawks shot just 34.6% from the field in the loss as the Pilots won on a last-second, putback shot. Junseok Yeo had 14 points and John Christofilis added 13 in the game.
- The teams last met in Seattle Dec. 30, 2020 with the Redhawks closing out the calendar year with an 84-68 win over the Pilots at the Redhawk Center. Darrion Trammell had 25 points and 13 assists, while Riley Grigsby (22p, 10r) and Jared Pearre (18p, 10r) each added a double-double as well.
- Seattle U is 42-8 all-time in Seattle.
- Portland’s last win in Seattle was Feb. 5, 2011 in a 71-55 final.
- This marks the first year the two schools are competing as conference rivals since 1980. The schools were both West Coast Athletic Conference (now WCC) members from 1977-1980.

- Will Heimbrodt has 68 blocks through 28 games, leading the WCC and ranking among the nation’s best in the statistical category.
- With three games remaining in the regular season, Heimbrodt sits in second in Seattle U’s single-season record book.
- Seattle U’s all-time record for blocks in a single season is 79, set by Aaron Menzies during the 2017-18 season.
- Meanwhile, Heimbrodt’s 84 career blocks is fifth all-time at Seattle U. In fourth all-time is Brandton Chatfield (2022-24) with 93 career blocks.
- Maleek Arington’s 62 steals this season moves him into the Seattle U top-10 for a single season. In a tie for eighth are Eric Briggs (1986-87) and Andrew Lang (1992-93) with 63.
- Arington’s 135 career steals at Seattle U ties for seventh all-time with Morgan Means (2017-20). In sixth is Ray Brooks (1983-85) with 138.
- John Christofilis has poured in 147 threes in two-plus seasons at SU, putting him in 10th all-time. Sitting tied for eighth are Andre Lang (91-95) and Morgan Means (2017-20), each with 150 career threes.
NUMBERS WATCH
- The 60-50 win over Oregon State on Feb. 15 was No. 96 at Seattle U for Head Coach Chris Victor. He is four wins away from the century mark while leading the Redhawks. Victor is also one wins away from 200 for his career as a head coach, which also includes six seasons at Citrus College in California.
- On Sunday, Feb. 15, Jojo Murphy surpassed 1,500 points during his collegiate career. The senior who spent his first three seasons at Chico State, hit the marker with a floater in the lane midway through the second half against Oregon State. He finished the night with 11 points, added 10 points on Wednesday, Feb. 18 versus Saint Mary’s and now sits at 1,517 for his career.
- Brayden Maldonado is the next Redhawk nearing the milestone marker with 1,395 career points.
