Play4Kay Game Set for Saturday Against Pilots

SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-21, 1-14 WCC) hosts Portland (15-12, 9-6 WCC) for its Play4Kay game inside the Redhawk Center at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon for its second to last home game of the regular season.

SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-21, 1-14 WCC) hosts Portland (15-12, 9-6 WCC) for its Play4Kay game inside the Redhawk Center at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon for its second to last home game of the regular season.

Graduate Ella Brubaker locked up her seventh 20+ scoring effort of the season behind 25 points against LMU on Thursday night. Brubaker paces the team with 16.0 points per game shooting 44.4 percent from the field. She ranks fifth in the WCC in scoring on the year. 

Brubaker also guides the team from the free throw line, shooting 82.9 percent on the season. She’s connected for 102 makes from the stripe, ranking fifth in the conference in free throws made. Defensively, she grabs 4.4 rebounds a game, while pacing the team in steals with 42 on the year.

Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin averages in double digit scoring alongside Brubaker. Stricklin is posting 10.2 points per game on 39.8 percent shooting from the field. She paces the team from three point land, recording a 35.8 three point percentage on the season. Stricklin leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 143 on the year. She averages 5.9 a contest.

Freshman Jana Vesic orchestrates the Redhawk offense handing out 2.7 assists per game. Vesic ranks 16th in the conference in assists and adds 7.9 points a contest. 

Guiding the defense is Brubaker, posting 1.6 steals a contest. She ranks 27th in the WCC in total blocks with 12. Junior Lucija Milkovic and graduate Andjela Bigovic each rank top-25 in the league in blocks, each with 13 on the year.

The Redhawks have combined for 578 made field goals on the season, averaging 38 percent shooting. They grab 24 rebounds a contest while posting 6.8 steals and 2.9 blocks per game. Seattle U ranks first in the WCC in free throw percentage, combining for 79.6 percent shooting from the stripe.

Portland and Seattle U have the longest standing history of SU’s new conference opponents. The pair have met 21 times since 1978 with the Pilots leading the Redhawks 14-7 in the last 20 meetings. In SU’s Division I era the two programs have clashed 12 times. The Redhawks have collected four wins in that time span and go for their first win over Portland since 2012.

Since the two last met in mid-January, the Pilots have gone 4-4 in their last eight games, including 1-4 in road games. Portland heads up the highway after traveling to Corvallis on Thursday, moving to 5-8 on the road this season after falling to Oregon State by ten.

Following the weekend the Redhawks remain in Washington, traveling on Thursday, February 26 for their final regular season road game against Washington State. They return home on the final day of February for Senior Day against Pepperdine.
