SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-20, 1-13 WCC) hosts LMU (17-8, 11-3 WCC) on Thursday night as part of a two game homestand inside the Redhawk Center this week. The Redhawks prepare for an evening of fan fare, hosting the Fan Olympics alongside game action.
Graduate Ella Brubaker leads the team in scoring on the season, averaging 15.7 points a contest to rank fifth in the West Coast Conference. Brubaker is shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three on the year. On the defensive end, Brubaker paces the team and ranks 13th in the conference in steals with 40. She averages 4.4 rebounds a contest.
Brubaker comes off her 21st double-digit scoring performance of the season on the heels of her Division I collegiate career high against San Diego where she eclipsed 2,000 career points across her six years of college basketball. She ranks fifth i n the WCC in free throw percentage, holding a 83.5 percent clip from the stripe.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin is averaging in double digits alongside Brubaker, posting 10.3 points per game shooting a team leading 35.4 percent from three. Stricklin is shooting 39.5 percent from the field on the season while leading the team’s rebounding effort, hauling in 5.7 a contest which ranks 10th in the WCC.
Freshman Jana Vesic orchestrates the offense handing out a team leading 2.7 assists per game, which ranks 16th in the conference. Vesic adds 8.2 points per game shooting 38 percent from the floor.
Graduate Andjela Bigovic and junior Lucija Milkovic have combined for 24 blocks on the season. The pair each add 6.6 points a contest with Milkovic shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.
The Redhawks have combined for 560 made field goals on the season and 143 triples. They average 33.6 rebounds a game while picking up 6.9 steals and 2.9 blocks a contest. SU ranks sixth in the WCC in blocks per game. Seattle U paces the league and ranks fourth in the nation in free throw percentage, combining for 80.2 percent shooting from the stripe.
Seattle U and LMU meet for the eighth time in program history after clashing in late January. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 3-4 after the Lions defended home court in their first conference meeting. Since the pair last met, LMU has enjoyed a three game winning streak, defeating Saint Mary’s Pepperdine and Gonzaga. They have gone 2-0 at home in those three games, moving to 11-3 at home on the year.
In SU’s return home, the Redhawks are hosting Fan Olympics for their in game activations. Four representatives from each grade level will compete throughout the game at a chance to take home a trophy and Nintendo Switch 2. Concessions will also be serving personal pizzas as a special menu item for the fan fare. Students can claim their tickets for free and cheer on their classmates. Following Thursday’s contest, the Redhawks remain at home through the weekend to host Portland on Saturday, February 21 at 1 PM for their second to last home game of the regular season.
