LAS VEGAS - Seattle University softball (7-3) completed the season sweep of Quinnipiac (1-4) behind a five inning 9-1 victory over the Bobcats inside Eller Media Stadium to extend its winning streak to four straight games in the UNLV Desert Classic finale on Sunday morning.

Junior Avari Morris paced the team with two hits, which were both doubles, two runs and four RBI in three at bats. She was one of four Redhawks with multiple hits on the day.

Graduate Jay Ross posted two hits, both for extra bases, as she logged a double and a triple while collecting three RBI and two runs. Sophomore Abbie Fales recorded two hits and two runs in two at bats to match junior Sophia Kissling with two hits and two runs in two at bats.

Senior Taylor Fitch led the team with two assists from shortstop. She logged two RBI and a double in one at bat. Fellow senior Brooklyn Jones led the team with four put outs from third base.

Guiding the Redhawk defense from the circle was sophomore Maya Mesa. Mesa pitched 4.0 innings and faced 17 batters while striking out one. She did not allow a run. Junior Ellie Bostedt appeared for the final 1.0 inning in her home city where she faced five batters and allowed one unearned run.

Both teams went scoreless through the first inning, leaving runners on after some errors and walks. The Redhawks burst through first with Fales logging a hit in the top of the second. Kissling followed suit before the pair advanced into scoring position off a wild pitch. Facing one out, Morris sent her first double of the day to score both Kissling and Fales to take the early 2-0 lead. After a Quinnipiac pitching change, Ross scored Morris from second off her double. Fitch mimicked Ross and Morris with a double of her own to score Ross to take the 4-0 lead after the second. Mesa capped the inning by collecting the backwards K in the bottom of the second.

Seattle U kept up the pressure in the third, scoring five runs on five hits. Fales got on base off a single before Jones was walked. Kissling loaded the bases with a bunt single. Morris faced an out and sent her second double of the day to score both Fales and Jones. Ross cleared Morris and Kissling with her first triple of the season to put the Redhawks up by eight. Fitch drafted the final SU run of the contest with a sac fly. The Redhawks sent down the next three Bobcat batters in the bottom of the third.

The Redhawks kept the Bobcats scoreless in the fourth, capping the inning by turning a double play. Quinnipiac scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth off a sac fly and a Redhawk error. Bostedt and Ross wrapped the contest with the final out to down the Bobcats in five innings.

Seattle U returns to action next week, traveling to the renowned Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, California. The Redhawks kick off the weekend against former WAC foe California Baptist on Friday, February 20 at 10 AM.
