SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball jets off to Moraga, California in a moved conference contest from Saturday, February 14 to Monday, February 16 for its second meeting against Saint Mary’s of the season. The Redhawks (5-19, 1-12 WCC) and Gaels (14-12, 5-8 WCC) tip off at 1 PM inside the UCU Pavilion.
Graduate Ella Brubaker leads the Redhawks averaging 15.7 points per game shooting 43.8 percent from the field to rank fifth in the conference in scoring. Brubaker ranks fourth in the league in free throw percentage, posting a 83.6 percent clip from the stripe on the season. She ranks 79th in the nation in free throw percentage. On the defensive end, she averages 4.5 rebounds a contest while leading the team with 40 steals on the year.
Brubaker comes off a Division I career high scoring 27 points in SU’s loss to San Diego last weekend. She nearly matched her DI career best in free throws made, hitting nine of 11 from the stripe. She connected for eight field goals while matching her DI career high five steals. The effort launched her past 2,000 career points between the NAIA and DI levels.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin ranks second on the team in scoring, also averaging in double digits alongside Brubaker. Stricklin posts 10.6 PPG shooting 41.0 percent from the floor. She leads the team in three point percentage, shooting 37.0 percent from behind the arc. Stricklin guides the Redhawk defense averaging a team leading 5.6 rebounds a contest. She has hauled in 129 on the year.
Freshman Jana Vesic ranks 15th in the WCC in assists and paces the team averaging 2.8 a contest. She ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.0 points a contest. Graduate Andjela Bigovic leads the team in blocks, tallying 12 on the year. She adds 6.9 points and 4.6 rebounds a game.
Seattle U has combined for 539 made field goals, including 137 triples, on the season shooting 38.0 percent from the field. The Redhawks rank first in the conference and fourth in the nation in free throw percentage, combining for 80.0 percent shooting from the charity stripe. SU grabs 33.7 rebounds a contest while picking up 7.0 steals and 2.9 blocks. Seattle U ranks sixth in the conference in blocks per game.
The Redhawks and Gaels meet for the second time this season and seventh time in program history. Saint Mary’s secured the first meeting in late January behind a 14 point victory in Seattle. The Redhawks go for their first program win against the Gaels and first win over Saint Mary’s in Moraga.
Since the pair last met, the Gaels have gone 1-3 in conference contests, defeating San Francisco on the road. They have gone 0-2 in home contests since visiting Seattle, falling to both Pacific and LMU. Saint Mary’s is 6-6 at home on the year.
Seattle U pursues its first road contest win of the season on Monday afternoon against the Gaels with tip off slated for 1 PM with streaming available on ESPN+.
Following Monday’s game, the Redhawks return home to host both LMU and Portland starting with the Lions on Thursday, February 19 at 6 PM
