LOS ANGELES - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-17, 1-10) fell in its Southern California finale to LMU (14-8, 8-3 WCC) 40-81 inside Gersten Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

Graduate Ella Brubaker led the Redhawks with 12 points, her 18th double-digit scoring performance this season. Brubaker, SU’s leading free throw shooter, went perfect, 4-for-4 from the line. 

Freshman Chloe Emanga scored eight points off the bench, knocking down six free throws. Graduate Andjela Bigovic scored six, while matching Brubaker with four makes on four attempts from the charity stripe. Bigovic led all Redhawks with 10 rebounds, her second straight game with double digit boards, and two assists. 

Sophomore Sydnie Rodriguez matched her career high in steals, grabbing five on the afternoon. Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin finished one steal shy of tying her career high, recording three steals. The pair combined for nine points and nine rebounds.

The Redhawks forced 13 turnovers, combining for eight steals, and out performed the Lions from the free throw line, shooting 76 percent from the stripe to LMU’s 58. 

Both teams got off to a slow start, neither able to score until three minutes into the first quarter. The Redhawks trailed 17-2 after the opening ten minutes. Rodriguez led the scoring effort in the second, recording five points including a triple. Brubaker added four points on 50 percent shooting from the floor. SU entered the halftime break down 15-40.

Emanga led the team out of the half, scoring six points. She connected for four makes from the free throw line. Bigovic and Brubaker went perfect from the stripe, each knocking down two free throws. The grad duo combined for eight points in the closing ten minutes, with Bigovic finishing with a season high four made free throws. Stricklin grabbed three boards in the fourth quarter as the Redhawks wrapped their weekend in California falling to the Lions 81-40.

Seattle U returns to action next Saturday to host San Francisco at the Redhawk Center for the first meeting between the two programs this season. Tipoff is slated for 1 PM.
