- Going against the West Coast Conference’s perennial powers in back-to-back road games, Seattle U suffered its first consecutive losses of the season. After taking No. 7 Gonzaga to overtime in Spokane on Jan. 4, the Redhawks dropped a 93-76 decision at Saint Mary’s on Jan. 4.
- Seattle U led both the Zags and then the Gaels at halftime before the late pushes from both home teams.
- Seattle U is now 12-5 overall and 1-3 in WCC play. The 12-5 record is the best start to a season since 2022-23. Those Redhawks went 13-4 through 17 games.
- At Saint Mary’s on Jan. 4, the Redhawks shot better than 58% in the first half, including 6-of-11 from three (54.5%) and took a 44-39 lead into the break against the Gaels, who entered the game ranked first in the WCC in scoring defense and three-point field goal percentage defense, and second in field goal percentage defense.
- Junseok Yeo finished the game with a career-high 24 points. Will Heimbrodt added 19 points and five blocks – his third outing of the season with five or more blocks. Maleek Arington added a season-high 12 points to go with six rebounds.
- The Redhawks poured in 11 threes (11-for-25) against the Gaels, marking the third straight game with 10 or more threes. They also had 12 at Gonzaga on Jan. 2 and 10 against Washington State in Dec. 30.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS OREGON STATE
- This marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Seattle U and Oregon State with the Beavers holding a 16-6 advantage.
- The teams last met on Dec. 15, 2022 in Corvallis. Seattle U entered the game with a 7-1 record and would suffer just its second loss of the season, 73-58.
- The Beavers held the Redhawks to a then season-low 58 points. Riley Grigsby led Seattle U with 14 points. Paris Dawson had 11 and Alex Schumacher added 10.
- The teams have four total meetings during Seattle U’s modern DI era. The teams have split those four games, 2-2.
- This marks the first time that the teams will meet as conference opponents.
RECORD BOOK WATCH
- Will Heimbrodt has 45 blocks through 17 games, leading the WCC and ranking among the nation’s best in the statistical category.
- With 14 games remaining in the regular season, Heimbrodt’s total is already No. 6 in Seattle U’s single-season record book.
- Currently tied for No. 4 are Kobe Williamson (2023-24) and Eugene McClanahan (1982-83) with 53 blocks.
- Seattle U’s all-time record for blocks in a single season is 79, set by Aaron Menzies during the 2017-18 season.
NCAA NET RANKING
- The first NET ranking of the season debuted on Dec. 1. Seattle U debuted at 109 which was the fifth highest in the West Coast Conference.
- Coming off of their 70-66 win over Washington, the Redhawks broke into the top-100 for the first time this season, coming in at No. 99.
The Redhawks’ peak was No. 93 on Dec. 23 and in games played through Jan. 6, they sit at 108, good for fourth best in the WCC behind Gonzaga (4), Saint Mary’s (23) and Santa Clara (62).

- 2nd in turnover margin (3.29)
- 3rd in steals per game (8.47)
- Brayden Maldonado ranks 1st in free-throw percentage (95.1), T-3rd in steals per game (1.9) and 7th in scoring (15.2 ppg).
- Will Heimbrodt leads the league in blocks (2.8).
- Maleek Arington is 3rd in steals per game (1.9) and 3rd in assists/TO ratio (3.5).
