SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-16, 1-9 WCC) journeys down the Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles for its first meeting with LMU (13-8, 7-3 WCC) of the season, clashing against the Lions at Gersten Pavilion on Saturday, January 31 at 2 PM.
Graduate Ella Brubaker leads the team averaging 15.0 points per game, shooting 44.3 percent from the field. Brubaker averages 1.3 makes from behind the arc, posting a 32.1 percent clip from three. She paces the team from the free throw line, shooting 83.5 percent from the stripe, a mark that ranks 68th nationally.
Brubaker sits 34 points away from surpassing 2,000 points spanning her three seasons at The Master’s University and two seasons at Pepperdine. On the year, Brubaker has achieved her Division I collegiate season high, scoring 316 points and counting while with the Redhawks. At the DI level, Brubaker has amassed 726 points, shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from three.
Since joining SU, Brubaker has recorded DI career season bests in made field goals, made triples, free throw percentage, made free throws, rebounds and steals.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin is SU’s second double digit scorer this season, posting 11.2 PPG through 20 contests. Stricklin leads the team from beyond the arc, holding a 37.3 percent clip from three. She’s averaging 43.1 percent shooting from the field on the season. Stricklin also guides the team’s rebounding effort, averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.
Both Brubaker and Stricklin sit inside the WCC’s top-25 in field goal percentage, with Brubaker coming in at 22 and Stricklin at 24. Sophomore Sydnie Rodriguez ranks amongst the top-25 in the WCC alongside Stricklin in rebounds, averaging 4.9 RPG.
Freshman Jana Vesic orchestrates the offense, handing out a team leading 59 assists this season. She sits 14th in the conference in both total assists and assists per game (2.8).
Brubaker guides the defensive effort, leading the team with 30 steals and ranking third on the team with nine blocks. Fellow graduate Andjela Bigovic ranks first on the team with 11 blocks this season.
Together, the Redhawks have combined for 489 made field goals, shooting 39.1 percent from the field as a team. They’ve connected for 124 triples, shooting 29.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Seattle U ranks first in the conference in free throw percentage, combining for a 79.1 clip from the stripe. The team ranks ninth in the country in free throw percentage.
The Redhawks grab 34.3 rebounds, 6.6 steals and 3.0 blocks per game. They rank fifth in the WCC in blocks.
LMU and SU meet for the seventh time in program history dating back to the start of the series in 2009. The pair have not met since 2016, with the Lions tying the series record 3-3 behind a three point victory in Seattle that year. Seattle U is 2-1 in LA against LMU, last defeating the Lions in 2015 by nine.
The Lions improved to 13-8 on the year after defeating Pacific on Thursday evening for their seventh WCC win this season. They moved 8-3 overall and 4-1 in WCC play at home.
Following Saturday’s game, the Redhawks return to Seattle to host San Francisco on February 5 at 6 PM.
