SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball travels to Pullman, Wash., for its final intra-state battle of the season, facing off against Washington State on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at Beasley Coliseum. The West Coast Conference match-up is slated for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off on ESPN+.

QUICK HITS

  • Finishing with its second lowest scoring output of the season, Seattle U dropped a 56-54 decision at Pacific on Saturday in Stockton, Calif.
  • The Redhawks moved to 14-8 on the season and 3-6 in West Coast Conference play.
  • The Redhawks had just 18 first-half points, their lowest scoring half of the season. They rebounded to outscore the Tigers, 36-23 in the second half, but could not complete the comeback.
  • Desipte just 19 total field goals in the game, Seattle U buried 10 triples for the eighth time this season.
  • Brayden Maldonado led the Redhawks in scoring for the 12th time this season, finishing with 20 points, including six threes.
  • Junseok Yeo was the only other Redhawk in double figures, finishing with 13.
  • Will Heimbrodt had three blocks, bringing his season total to 55 and moving him up a spot in the program’s single-season record book.
  • • Seattle U’s defense held the Tigers to just 3-12 from three for the game, the second fewest allowed to an opponent this season behind the two made by Texas State on Nov. 28.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS WASHINGTON STATE

  • This marks the 20th meeting between Seattle U and Washington State. Seattle U holds a 10-9 edge in the all-time series following a win over the Cougars earlier this season.
  • The Redhawks claimed a 69-55 win at Climate Pledge Arena on Dec. 30, 2025, marking their first West Coast Conference win and snapping a two-game WSU streak in the head-to-head series.
  • Seattle U held the Cougars to just 29.7% FG shooting in the game, including 4-27 from three, while hitting at a healthy 42.6% from the field on the offensive end.
  • All 10 Redhawks who saw the court scored in the game, led by Brayden Maldonado’s 15 points. Junseok Yeo added 10 and Will Heimbrodt had nine.
  • Washington State leads 7-3 all-time in games played in Pullman.
  • The all-time series dates back to 1949 while the bulk of the meetings came during the 1960s and 1970s.

VERSUS THE STATE OF WASHINGTON

  • The Redhawks are 3-2 against their DI intra-state rivals so far this season with wins over Eastern Washington (94-67) on Nov. 12, Washington (70-66) on Dec. 19  and Washington State (69-55) on Dec. 30.
  • The Redhawks lost two meetings with Gonzaga, falling 80-72 in Spokane on Jan. 2 to the seventh-ranked Bulldogs, the suffering a 71-50 defeat to the ninth-ranked Bulldogs on Jan. 17 in Seattle.
  • Seattle U hosted all four other Division I programs in the state of Washington during the 2025-26 season and play six total games against DI intra-state rivals.
  • The Redhawks’ final intra-state game is at Washington State on Jan. 28.

RECORD BOOK WATCH

  • Will Heimbrodt has 55 blocks through 22 games, leading the WCC and ranking among the nation’s best in the statistical category.
  • With nine games remaining in the regular season, Heimbrodt has moved into fourth in Seattle U’s single-season record book.
  • Currently in third is David White (2006-07) with 57 blocks.
  • Seattle U’s all-time record for blocks in a single season is 79, set by Aaron Menzies during the 2017-18 season.

NUMBERS WATCH

  • The 69-59 win over LMU on Jan. 21 was No. 94 at Seattle U for Head Coach Chris Victor. He is six wins away from the century mark while leading the Redhawks. Victor is also three wins away from 200 for his career as a head coach, which also includes six seasons at Citrus College in California.
  • John Christofilis has poured in 136 threes in two-plus seasons at SU, putting him in striking distance of entering the SU all-time top-list this year. Sitting tied for 10th are Mack Junior (95-99) and Arne Klubberud (95-99), each with 144 career threes.
  • Maleek Arington enters Wednesdays match-up at Washington State with 894 career points and eyes becoming a third member of the 2025-26 squad to surpass 1,000 career points. He would join Jojo Murphy (1,480 career points) and Brayden Maldonado (1,345 career points).
