SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-12, 1-5 WCC) returns to action with its second trip to Oregon in as many weekends, traveling back down Interstate 5 for a meeting with PNW rival Portland (10-8, 4-2 WCC) inside the Chiles Center on Saturday evening.

A pair of SU seniors lead the Redhawks in scoring, with graduate Ella Brubaker pacing the team with 14.8 points per game, shooting 43 percent from the field. Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin aids the scoring effort, averaging 11.5 PPG on 42.8 percent shooting from the floor. Stricklin leads the team with 6.4 rebounds a contest, a mark that ranks seventh in the WCC.

Stricklin ranks ninth in the WCC in three point percentage, shooting 38.9 percent from behind the arc. She averages 1.3 triples a game on 3.4 attempts.

Sophomore Sydnie Rodriguez assists in the rebounding effort, averaging 4.9 a game. Both Brubaker, 4.6 rebounds, and junior Lucija Milkovic, 4.7 rebounds, rank alongside Rodriguez and Stricklin in the WCC’s top 30.

Milkovic leads the Redhawks with her 50 percent shooting from the field. She is one of four WCC players this season shooting 50 percent or better from the floor. Through 18.3 minutes of action per game, Milkovic is scoring 7.4 PPG.

SU’s freshmen, Dylan Mogel and Jana Vesic, both appear in the top-20 in the conference in assists. Vesic sits inside the top-15, handing out 2.9 assists per game, with Mogel joining her in the top-20 with 2.3 assists per game after 17 starts.

The Redhawks have combined 400 makes from the field this season, including 104 triples. They rank seventh in the league in three point percentage, connecting for 30.1 percent from behind the arc. Seattle U is the WCC’s leading free throw shooting percentage team, combining for a 78.1 clip from the stripe. The Redhawks have made 178 free throws on the season.

SU grabs 6.2 steals a contest while ranking tied sixth with 3.1 blocks per game. The Redhawks grab 35.1 rebounds per game through 17 games. On the defensive end, they force 14.2 turnovers a game.

Seattle U and Portland have the longest standing history of any of SU’s new conference opponents. The Redhawks and Pilots meet for the 21st time since 1978 and the 12th time since SU’s return to DI in 2008. SU trails the all-time series 7-20, while holding a 3-8 record in Portland. Seattle U aims for its first victory over the Pilots since 2012 and first road win over Portland since 2010. 

The Pilots hold a 4-2 record in conference action, grabbing wins over Saint Mary’s, Washington State, Pacific and Santa Clara. They are 2-0 at home in WCC play while holding a 6-2 record at home on the season. Portland wrapped non-conference play 6-6, ending its final four game stretch 2-2 before starting WCC play on the road. The Pilots return to the Chiles Center after splitting a pair of road contests against Gonzaga and Santa Clara.

Following the weekend, the Redhawks return to Seattle for two games, hosting both Santa Clara and Saint Mary’s inside the Redhawk Center. Seattle U will host International Night against the Broncos on Thursday before celebrating its alumni on Alumni Day against Saint Mary’s on Saturday, January 24.
