CORVALLIS, Ore. - A close first half contest would slip in the second for Seattle University women’s basketball (13-5, 5-0 WCC) as the Redhawks (5-12, 1-5 WCC) suffered the 68-38 defeat to Oregon State inside Gill Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin led the team with 11 points for her seventh straight double-digit scoring game. She matched her season high three triples, connecting on 60 percent of her shots from three point land. Stricklin grabbed six rebounds, including one offensive board, while handing out an assist.

Sophomore Fia Proctor scored seven in 18 minutes of action, connecting for three-of-four makes from the floor including going perfect on her lone attempt from three. She finished one rebound short of her season high, picking up two.

Junior Lucija Milkovic netted six points and grabbed four rebounds, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc. Graduate Ella Brubaker led the Redhawks with eight rebounds, matching her career high. Brubaker grabbed two steals while also handing out two assists. Freshman Jana Vesic led the team with three assists, scoring four points coming off the bench.

The Redhawks combined for eight threes while going perfect from the free throw line. They grabbed 36 rebounds and picked up three steals. SU paced the Beavers in blocks, accounting for four to their one.

Stricklin led the Redhawks in the first ten minutes, scoring six points off back-to-back makes from three. Milkovic and sophomore Sydnie Rodriguez also made a splash from behind the arc, connecting on their attempts from three. The Redhawks narrowly trailed the Beavers, 22-13, after the first quarter after shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.

A big second quarter from Proctor cut into Oregon State’s 16 point lead as the sophomore worked to pull the Redhawks back within six. She put the Redhawks on a 10-0 run with assistance from Brubaker. After OSU built back its lead to double-digits, Stricklin struck from three for the third time to make it an eight point game, 35-25, heading into halftime.

The Beavers surged back in the second half, scoring 33 to SU’s 18 to move to 5-0 in WCC play while improving to 8-2 at home. The Redhawks remain in hot pursuit of their first road victory this season after locking down their first WCC victory on Thursday. 

Seattle U returns to action next Saturday, heading back down I-5 with an evening meeting with Portland on January 17. The Redhawks return home on Thursday, January 22 to host Santa Clara.
