SEATTLE - With their first home win in the books, the Seattle University Redhawks are back on the road, playing two matches in Spokane this weekend. The Redhawks will take on Montana on March 1 at 2:00 pm first, then play against host Gonzaga on March 2 at 10:00 am to finish the weekend.
Last time out, the Redhawks earned a big victory in their first home match of the spring season. Seattle U battled back from down 2-0 to beat Portland State 4-3. Lamija Avdic, Liliya Dimova, Natalia Michta, and Larissa Teramura all earned wins in singles to help the Redhawks along. It was Teramura's win that tied the match up at 3-3, with Avdic's match on court one ending shortly thereafter and making it a 4-3 win.
Avdic was undefeated on the weekend, winning both her doubles matches and both her singles matches, against Portland State and Portland. Avdic paired with Michta in each of those doubles wins. Dimova also won both of her singles matches on the weekend, while Michta has now won two of her last three singles matches, stretching back to the road match against Idaho.
This is the second time this year the Redhawks have played at Gonzaga, having also competed at the Gonzaga Invitational in October. In that tournament, Michta and Lola Tavcar made the doubles finals with two wins before falling to Gonzaga's Emily Robertson and Safien Boulonois 2-6. Tavcar, Michta, Teramura, Daria Nazarenko, and Mina Yazadzhiev all competed in singles play at that tournament as well. Avdic and Dimova did not compete at the Gonzaga Invitational as they were away at the WAC Fall Invitational, where the duo won the doubles title and qualified for ITA Masters.
It has been just over a calendar year since the Redhawks and Bulldogs faced off in a dual match. Last season, Seattle U triumphed 5-2 in Spokane. Avdic, Tavcar, and Dimova all won their doubles matches, with Avdic and Tavcar pairing on court three. In singles play, the Redhawks earned points from Dimova, Avdic, and Jade Quintana.
The Redhawks last matched up with Montana twice in the 2022-23 season. Seattle University won both of those dual matches, 5-2 and 4-3. In the October matchup, Dimova earned a singles point for the Redhawks, the only current Redhawk to earn points there. She would also earn a doubles win against Montana.
In the spring dual, the Redhawks won 4-3 in Spokane. That match saw Montana take the doubles point but Dimova, Tavcar, and Quintana all earn points in singles play in what would become a Redhawks win.
