SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks will face off twice with Portland teams this weekend, competing on back-to-back days. First, the Redhawks will take on the Portland Pilots in Portland on February 21. On February 22, the Redhawks will host Portland State at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.
These two matches come on the heels of a close-fought easterly road trip. The Redhawks took on Idaho and Washington State, each on the road, last weekend. While Seattle U took losses in both matches, the Redhawks were just edged out by Idaho, 3-4, before a shortened match at Washington State ended 0-4.
Daria Nazarenko and Liliya Dimova won both of their doubles matches last weekend, combining with Lola Tavcar and Lamija Avdic to earn the doubles point against Idaho. Nazarenko and Dimova are 2-2 this spring season as a doubles pair. Dimova also won her singles matchup at Idaho, playing on court two. Natalia Michta also earned a singles point at Idaho, winning 6-2, 6-4.
Tavcar and Avdic were undefeated across their first three doubles matches of the spring season but finally fell, 5-7, at Washington State. Before that, Tavcar and Avdic had won at Idaho and led against both Long Beach State and Oregon in doubles matches that went unfinished.
Last season, the Redhawks dropped matches to both Portland and Portland State. Against Portland State, Tavcar and Avdic won their doubles match, as did Dimova.
