SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Marley Hardgrave, Elif Teksoy and Grace Jones each earned a spot on the West Coast Conference’s All-Academic honorable mention team in recognition of their academic and athletic accomplishments this year, as announced by the league this afternoon.
To be honored, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better with at least a complete academic year at their respective institution while competing as a starter or important reserve for their respective team.
Teksoy and Hardgrave finished out their senior seasons with the Redhawks, with Hardgrave appearing and starting all 29 contests of her final campaign. Teksoy made a splash in her return to the starting lineup at the start of conference competition, ending the year as one of the league’s top setters. Jones was a staple piece all season long for the Redhawks, both in the orchestration of the offense and from the service line.
Hardgrave picked up a career high 82.0 blocks this season, ranking in the WCC’s top-15 in total blocks. She combined for 13 solo blocks and 69 block assists in her final season, including nine solo blocks in conference contests. She ranked amongst the top-25 in the WCC in hitting percentage, averaging a .250 in conference matches. She posted 131 kills on the season and averaged 1.20 kills per set in conference play.
Teksoy ranked fourth in the WCC in assists per set, averaging 7.19 at the end of the year. She totaled 532 assists on the season, her second highest season total during her tenure. Teksoy amassed 18 kills, 14 aces, 102 digs and 16.0 total blocks in 74 sets of action.
Jones appeared in 97 sets this season across 27 matches. The setter combined for 243 assists, nine kills, 22 aces and 130 digs, collecting new career bests in assists and kills.
The trio join freshman Petra Fritz and sophomore Madyn Cervellera as the first group of WCC honorees following the program’s first season in the conference. Cervellera earned All-WCC honorable mention while Fritz grabbed a spot on the All-WCC freshman team.
