SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball continues West Coast Conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 30, closing out the homestand and the calendar year by hosting Washington State. The Redhawks and Cougars will tip off at 7 p.m. from Climate Pledge Arena. The game will broadcast live on ESPN+.

QUICK HITS
- The Redhawks opened West Coast Conference play on Dec. 28 with a 59-67 loss to San Francisco.
- The game marked the long awaited return to the league (then known as the West Coast Athletic Conference) that the schools competed in from the 1971-72 season through 1979-80. The university dropped from Division I the following academic year.
- On Sunday against the Dons, the defensive battle went the way of USF, snapping a six-game win streak for the Redhawks, moving them to 11-3 on the season.
- The impressive start to the season was last achieved in 1966-67 when Seattle U also started 11-3 before suffering a fourth loss.
- In Seattle U’s modern DI era, the previous best start to a season was 8-2 in 2022-23. Those Redhawks went on to win their first Western Athletic Conference regular season championship and finish the year 20-12.
- Seattle U’s last win as a member of the conference was on Feb. 28, 1980 when they beat San Diego, 76-58, in San Diego.
- Seattle U closed out non-conference play with a 71-68 win at UTSA on Dec. 22, wrapping up the 13-game slate with an 11-2 record.
- Against the Dons, Brayden Maldonado and Will Heimbrodt each finished with 14 points. Heimbrodt recorded his first career double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his line.
- Brayden Maldonado made his first 21 free throws of the season before suffering a miss. He is currently riding a streak of 29 consecutive makes, ranking 1st in the nation at 98.0% (50-51) from the stripe.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS WASHINGTON STATE
- This marks the 19th meeting between Seattle U and Washington State. The programs are an even 9-9 all-time.
- The Cougars have won the last two meetings and five of the last six.
- Most recently, the teams met in Pullman with the Cougs earning a 79-61 win.
- Seattle U holds a 4-1 record in home games, the most recent a 78-69 victory on Nov. 14, 2018. That game was played at the Showare Center in Kent, Wash., during the construction of Climate Pledge Arena.
- This marks the first ever conference meeting between the programs.
- The all-time series dates back to 1949 while the bulk of the meetings came during the 1960s and 1970s.
NCAA NET RANKING
- The first NET ranking of the season debuted on Dec. 1. Seattle U debuted at 109 which was the fifth highest in the West Coast Conference.
- Coming off of their 70-66 win over Washington, the Redhawks broke into the top-100 for the first time this season, coming in at No. 99.
- In games played through Dec. 28, the Redhawks now sit at 112, now fifth best in the WCC behind Gonzaga (2), Saint Mary’s (28), Santa Clara (62) and San Francisco (99).
