SEATTLE - Fresh off its West Coast Conference debut, Seattle University women’s basketball (4-8, 0-1 WCC) returns to action for a Tuesday evening clash with Santa Clara (11-3, 1-0 WCC) inside the Leavey Center to wrap up its first weekend of conference action.
Graduate Ella Brubaker extended her double-digit scoring streak to eight straight games, guiding the Redhawks against the Tigers with 14 points. Three more Redhawks tallied double-digits in the score column in the defeat in Stockton. Brubaker shot around her season average against Pacific, connecting for six makes. With appearances in all 12 games, Brubaker is hitting 44.1 percent from the field and grabbing 4.8 rebounds a contest. Her 15.0 points per game ranks fifth in the conference.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin adds 10.3 PPG while leading the Redhawks with 7.0 rebounds per game, a mark that ranks sixth in the WCC.
Junior Lucija Milkovic leads the team and ranks third in the conference shooting 55.7 percent from the floor through 16.8 minutes of play on average. The center scores 7.4 points per game.
SU’s freshmen guards Jana Vesic and Dylan Mogel lead the team in assists, with Vesic handing out 3.3 to Vogel’s 2.8. Both appear in the WCC’s top-15, with Vesic coming in at eighth. Vesic is contributing 8.3 PPG on the season.
The Redhawks shoot a combined 41.1 percent from the field on the year, tallying 292 field goals through 12 games. They pick up 35.7 rebounds, 7.1 steals and 3.2 blocks a game, ranking seventh in the conference in blocks. Seattle U is the league’s third best free throw shooting team, posting a 75.8 percent clip from the stripe.
Tuesday’s match up is just the third ever meeting with Santa Clara. The pair first met in Santa Clara in 2010, with the Broncos taking care of business on their home floor that season. The Broncos then made the trip to Seattle the following season, with the Redhawks defending their home floor. Tomorrow’s game is the first since 2011.
Santa Clara wrapped the non-conference 10-3, holding a 4-1 record at home. The Broncos enter Tuesday with a five game winning streak through the month of December, collecting their first WCC win of the season over San Diego.
Following Tuesday’s game, the Redhawks return home for three games, kicking off the new year with Gonzaga on January 2.
