SEATTLE - Preparing for the West Coast Conference stage since arriving to the league on July 1, Seattle University women’s basketball (4-7) travels for its first conference contests of the season, taking on Pacific (5-6) at the Alex G. Spanos Center on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate Ella Brubaker returns to the league this time donning the Red and White, while leading the Redhawks with 15.1 points per game following her second 20+ scoring effort of the season. The guard ranks fifth in the conference in PPG and free throws made (40). She is one of five Redhawks to shoot above 40 percent through the first 11 games, hitting 44.2 percent from the field for 57 field goals on the season.
Defensively, Brubaker is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.0 a game while grabbing 1.4 steals a game to lead all Redhawks. Sophomore Sydnie Rodriguez sits behind Brubaker with 1.3 steals a game, with both sitting inside the WCC’s top-25 in steals.
Junior Lucija Milkovic is third in the WCC in field goal percentage following the non-conference slate, shooting 57.4 percent from the floor averaging 16 minutes a contest. The center contributes 7.2 points per game while also picking up 4.7 rebounds.
Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin is SU’s other double-digit scorer, posting 10.0 PPG in 10 appearances. The forward is shooting 44.7 percent on the season while ranking sixth in the WCC in rebounds per game, picking up 6.9 per contest.
Both freshmen guards sit inside the WCC’s top-10 in assists, with Jana Vesic leading the team with 3.5 assists per game. Dylan Mogel ranks ninth, handing out 3.1 assists.
Seattle U is shooting a combined 41.2 percent from the floor after connecting for 270 field goals in the non-conference. The Redhawks sit fifth in the conference in free throw percentage, posting a 73.8 percent shooting clip from the stripe. Defensively, they sit seventh in blocks (3.3) and eighth in steals (7.4) while picking up 25.6 defensive rebounds per game.
The Redhawks and Tigers meet for the sixth time in program history and for the first time as conference opponents. The pair first met in SU’s return to Division I in 2008 but the duo have not played a contest since 2018. Pacific leads the all-time series 5-0, while holding a 3-0 record over the Redhawks in Stockton.
Pacific collected five wins through the non-conference, capping its final two games before the holiday break 1-1, defeating Simpson 116-49 before falling to SU’s cross town rival Washington. The Tigers moved to 5-4 inside the Alex G. Spanos Center, only leaving Stockton three times through the first two months of action. Seattle U is the third game in Pacific’s four game home stand before the turn of the new year.
Following Sunday’s game, the Redhawks remain in Northern California, traveling west to Santa Clara for a Tuesday night match up with the Broncos. Seattle U then returns for a three game home-stand starting with Gonzaga on January 2.
