GREENWOOD, IN - Seattle U women's soccer forward Caroline Penner has been named Second Team Academic All-American, as announced by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday.
"It was a privilege to work with a Penner who truly represented the best of our program," Head Coach Julie Woodward said of her striker. As a Division I soccer player, she brought a level of discipline and commitment that set the standard for her teammates every day."
The senior from Olympia, WA, had a historic final season on First Hill. She finished tied 8th in the nation with goals scored at 17 on her way to being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. She was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Team.
On top of her stellar performance on the pitch, Penner was also a dominant force in the classroom. She posted a 4.0 GPA for the term while majoring in Biology and was named to her fourth-straight Academic All-Conference selection.
"Her work ethic on the field was matched by her dedication in the classroom," Woodward added. "Earning Academic All-American honors was a reflection of the consistency and focus she showed in all areas of her life. She is a special person."
Penner is the first Redhawk to be named an Academic All-American since Seattle U Athletics Hall-of-Famer Stephanie Verdoia did so following the 2014 campaign.
