SEATTLE - Seattle university women’s basketball (1-1, 0-0 WCC) locked up its first win of the season behind a complete effort from its entire roster in the 86-56 victory over Northwest (0-0, 0-0 CCC) at the Redhawk Center on Wednesday evening.
All eleven Redhawks made their way into the score column with graduate Ella Brubaker leading the pack with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor. She posted three makes from the charity stripe while corralling seven rebounds.
In addition to Brubaker, another three Redhawks scored in double-digits. Freshmen Chloe Emanga and Jana Vesic each went for 12 points, while Vesic handed out seven assists. The Serbian guard shot 55.5 percent from the field, connecting once from behind the arc. Emanga hit 45.5 percent from the field and picked up six rebounds.
Graduate Andjela Bigovic scored ten while finishing just shy of a double-double with eight rebounds. Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin led both teams with nine rebounds. The Renton native would score six off of two makes from beyond the arc.
Sophomores Sydnie Rodriguez and Fia Proctor combined for 14 points as Proctor went for a career night. The transfer forward scored a career best seven points, including her first career triple, while picking up three rebounds in 14 minutes of action. Rodriguez went perfect from the free throw line, 3-for-3, while picking up five rebounds.
Matching Vesic in assists was freshman Dylan Mogel, who dished out seven while scoring four points. Both guards only had one turnover a piece to go along with their seven assists. Mogel also went for a game high three steals alongside Rodriguez and senior Aaliyah Ibarra.

They combined for 46.7 percent shooting from the floor, including five makes from three, while limiting the Eagles to 28.6 percent shooting from behind the arc and 32.3 percent shooting from the floor. SU grabbed 14 steals, just two shy of matching tied-sixth all-time in a game since 2008.

The Redhawks bounced back quickly with energy after their season debut on Monday, scoring 27 through the opening ten minutes of action. They combined for 52.4 percent shooting from the floor with Brubaker and Stricklin leading the group through the first quarter, scoring six points a piece.
After starting up 6-0, the Eagles maneuvered their way to the tie 8-all before the Redhawks responded with a 13-0 run with over four minutes remaining. Junior Lucija Milkovic kick started the run from down low before Stricklin capped off the surge with a triple. Sophomore Lucy Larson and Stricklin each connected from downtown to close out the final thirty seconds of the first quarter, guiding the Redhawks to a 27-12 lead heading into the second.
The Redhawks steadily built their lead to 23 through the middle of the second quarter, capped up by a Vesic hoop and harm. The Eagles chipped at the lead, scoring five with under a minute remaining before a Brubaker score pushed the lead back up to 20. With the final second before the break, Proctor nabbed her first basket of her career, sending the Redhawks into the half with a 47-25 lead.
After Northwest brought the differential back down to 18, the Redhawks pivoted with a 7-0 run through the first three minutes of action out of halftime. Emanga grabbed a three point play to push the Redhawks up 25. Another run through the final three minutes of the third built up the SU to 30, highlighted by Proctor’s first career triple. Emanga struck again with just under a second to go in the third, pushing the Redhawks up 69-38 heading into the final ten minutes.
Rodriguez took control through the midway mark in the fourth quarter, scoring five points over 12 seconds. A fast break from Vesic with under a 1:15 remaining secured SU’s largest lead of the evening, 35, before the Eagles pulled back within 30 through the final seconds of the game. Seattle U bagged its first win of the season 86-56 to improve to 13-4 all-time against the Eagles.
The Redhawks look to defend their home turf on Sunday afternoon with UC Santa Barbara coming to the Redhawk Center for a noon tipoff. Following the weekend, Seattle U heads out on the road to California to take on Fresno State.
