SEATTLE - Following its first road contest outside of the greater Seattle area, Seattle University women’s basketball (1-3, 0-0 WCC) returns home for the third time in its early season, welcoming Cal Poly (1-1, 0-0 Big West) to the Redhawk Center on Saturday at 1 PM.

Freshman Jana Vesic leads the Redhawks with her 11.8 points and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the floor. The Serbian guard has posted three straight double-digit scoring efforts, coming off a 17 point game against UC Santa Barbara and a 12 point effort against Fresno State. She is one of two Redhawks averaging in double digits in the early season, ranking top-20 in the West Coast Conference.

Graduate Ella Brubaker follows Vesic with 11.5 points a game, while shooting 40 percent from the field. She ranks first on the team with four makes from behind the arc.

Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin ranks first in the league with 28 rebounds through four games, leading second place by five. The forward averages a team leading 7.0 rebounds a game, including 2.0 offensive boards a contest. Stricklin posts 8.0 points a game, shooting 41.9 percent from the field. Brubaker also sits amongst the top-10 in total rebounds, claiming ninth with 18 so far this season. Junior Lucija Milkovic sits inside the top-15 with 17 rebounds in 57 minutes of action.

The Redhawks are top five in the conference from the free throw line, getting to the charity stripe the third most frequent while holding the best free throw percentage of the three, hitting 69.4 percent as a team. Their 43 makes from the stripe ranks tied-first in the WCC through four games. Seattle U also ranks third in the WCC in FGM, connecting for 87 as a unit.

Seattle U and Cal Poly meet for the eighth time in program history dating back to 1988. The Redhawks trail the all-time series 2-5, last besting the Mustangs in 2019 in San Luis Obispo. SU is 1-3 at home against Cal Poly and goes for its first win over the Mustangs at home since the series opener. The pair met a season ago, with the Mustangs taking the contest in San Luis Obispo.

Cal Poly opened the season with a lopsided 87-27 win over UC Santa Cruz before traveling to Stanford to visit the Cardinal, falling 90-55. The Redhawks are part of a two-game Washington weekend for the Mustangs, with Cal Poly crossing east to visit Eastern Washington following Saturday’s game.

Both teams look to bounce back into the win column on Saturday with the Redhawks eyeing their second win at home on the year. The Mustangs look to maintain their two-game winning streak over the Redhawks while grabbing their first road win of the season. Saturday’s game against the Mustangs is Seattle U’s final home game in the month of November. The Redhawks return to the Redhawk Center in early December to host Evergreen State for Kids Day.

Following Saturday’s contest, The Redhawks hit the road, traveling for a Friday evening game against Boise State next week.
