SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman Petra Fritz's all-out effort guided Seattle University volleyball to its first ever West Coast Conference victory over the weekend, a feat that has been recognized by the league as the newly announced WCC Freshman of the Week.

Fritz combined for 25 kills in six sets of action last week, leading the Redhawks to a 1-1 weekend against Pacific and San Francisco. In Saturday’s win over the Dons, Fritz tallied 23 kills in four sets. The effort tied third all time in the DI era for kills in a four set match. The last Redhawk to do so was Katarina Marinkovic in 2016.

The New Mexico native also tied her career collegiate best five aces against San Francisco. After capturing an ace against the Tigers, Fritz has extended her ace streak to six straight. The outside hitter has 10 matches this season with 2+ aces.

Fritz combined for a .327 hitting percentage across the two-match weekend, averaging 4.67 kills per set. On the defensive end, she picked up a new collegiate best 17 digs in the win over USF, collecting her second double-double in digs and kills since her collegiate debut. She also picked up a block.

The award marks the first ever for the program as the WCC’s newest member since joining the conference in July. Fritz became the 13th Redhawk in the Division I era to be recognized for a conference weekly award. The last to do so was Katlyn Sipes, who grabbed two Libero of the Week awards in Seattle U’s final season in the Western Athletic Conference.

Fritz and Seattle U remain at home for a Thursday rematch against I-5 rival Portland before traveling to Washington State on Saturday.
