SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Seattle U women's soccer fought to a draw with Santa Clara, 3-3, Saturday afternoon in California. Building up a two-goal lead at one point, the Redhawks couldn't hold on for their first WCC win but did earn their first point in the new conference.

The Redhawks wasted no time in gaining the advantage on the road, when U'i Kaaihue scored the opener in the third minute off an assist from Kyla Schuster. Marla Gaudlitz would then double it up for SU just under seven minutes later, cleaning up her own initial shot for her second goal of the season.

Santa Clara would get one back before the break, netting one at 30-minute mark.

Much like the Redhawks quick offensive output in the first half, the Broncos did the same in the second as they leveled the match two minutes out of the break.

The back-and-forth affair would continue when Caroline Penner scored her seventh goal of the campaign in the 56th, keeping her within striking distance of the conference lead.

Seattle U would hold onto their lead for just under 13 minutes of play, as Santa Clara would find their second equalizer of the match, this one sticking.

The draw moves the Redhawks to 4-2-5 on the season and to 0-2-1 in conference play. Despite not getting the win, it was still a historic night for SU who secured their first point in the West Coast Conference.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Redhawks as they will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they host the Pacific Tigers at Championship Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm PDT.
